Hi all!

I would like to show you a little but I think useful piece of software I wrote to allow any non experienced user to easily rip B&W tonings from your favourite authors, and apply them straight into your B&W pictures or calculate a standard Photoshop .acv curves file to do the processing there. I hope you find it useful and I hope to get feedback from you all. I keep this program for free and it can be downloaded from (follow Software - Tone Hacker):
//perso.wanadoo.es/gluijk

The program analyses a toned B&W image and obtains the RGB curves to be applied to a pure B&W picture to obtain the same tone.

This is the GUI:

The steps to achieve a toning are:

1. Use the '...' to load a toned image
2. Press 'Analyse' to analyse it and create the curves
3. Load with '...' the target picture. If it is coloured use now 'Desaturate' to desaturate it.
4. Press 'Tone' for toning.
DONE! it's really fast.

or

3b. You can as well use the option to export PS curves (.acv format straight readable from PS) and apply the "hacked" toning from inside PS.

The generated files will subsequently be stored on the same folder as the original ones. Saving the histogram and curve plots can be disabled (default).

This is an example of the results to tone a B&W landscape. We found this picture and we liked its tone:

We analyse it with Tone Hacker, and apply the curves to a pure B&W image of ours. The result is this:

More examples including the use of Photoshop curves can be found on this link:
//luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12955

Hope you enjoy it.
Regards.

The Tone Hacker looks very cool, but the other piece of software in the luminous landscape thread looks awesome (removes objects in pictures)!

Nice stupid link redirect. How many times do we have to click before we get someplace?

You should explain ON THE FIRST PAGE why we need to click 6 times!

Hey, I would be happy to feature your app on my site: //www.loveyour.info and also host it for free so you don't have to click 100 times.

Whatya think?

Great software by the way, gonna play in a second..

Do you think you could write a program that does the opposite of Amenabar? A program that crowds places, e.g. you've got 3 people to fill a theatre.

Well, he sayd here why it's necessary for him to have all these pop-ups;

While the file downloads I'll tell you why I made you click 6 times.
On this website there is a maximum average download quota of 750KB per access click.
By accessing 6 different pages I can offer this download to you preventing the site from being locked for a whole day.
Please DON'T SPREAD THIS URL or it will quickly get locked to other users. Spread //perso.wanadoo.es/gluijk instead.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hola Guillermo... como tu por aqui? ;)

I've seen this tool growing up in spanish forum OD, I'm a member there too, and I can say it's gorgeous what you can achieve with it. let me link to it, you can see the pics to get an idea, even if you don't get a single spainsh word.

... and I'll rip your own tonings out for sure. :D

Note: Envíame un privado por aqui o por OD (CarlosM) si quieres que quite el link.

Edit: I hadn't seen Amenabar until mentioned here, but it's a real clever cute idea!!. I'll be trying it myself as soon as I can take a few pics to feed it

I'll show you another example in this case using Tone Hacker to generate Photoshop curves (I have to say that PS allows 19-point RGB curves while Tone Hacker deals with more accurate 256-point curves).
The power of PS curves is to store a library of toning curves that can be used any time to tone your B&W pictures.

We have this coloured picture (looking closely at it, we realise it's a quite sofisticated toning that performs a blue toning on the low lights, that turns into yellow for the highlights).

Let's find out if Tone Hacker can discover what's going on in that toning. We obtain the following curves to be applied (Rojo=R, Verde=G, Azul=B ):

By applying them to two pure B&W images we get:

I encourage you to try it and post here your results. It works.

Best.

I'm lost. How is it that you use this?

The steps to achieve a toning are:

1. Use the '...' to load a toned image
2. Press 'Analyse' to analyse it and create the curves
3. Load with '...' the target picture. If it is coloured use now 'Desaturate' to desaturate it.
4. Press 'Tone' for toning.
DONE! it's really fast.

or

3b. You can as well use the option to export PS curves (format straight readable from PS) and apply the "hacked" toning from inside PS. To do that once you have exported the curves with the 'Save PS' option, load your B&W picture into PS (if it is not pure B&W desaturate it now with any of the PS well known methods), choose Image->Adjust->Curves and then press 'Load...' and provide the .acv file Tone Hacker produced to apply the toning to your picture.

If you hit the desaturate button several times consecutively, the program crashes.

Quick fix: don't hit the desaturate button several times consecutively :)

hehe nice point. it crashes as the filename gets too long for Windows to be supported. I did not intend to make a robust program but a useful tool.

Thanks.

Allright, maybe a totally silly question, but .... does it work in Mac?
