When I upload my photo for the Brown challenge and the image pops up, it has less contrast and color vibrance as the image I have saved to my hard drive. WTF?

Well I just did a screen shot and uploaded it to possibly post, and it didn't affect that image at all. You can clearly see the color difference. Also, I haven't changed any of my setting in photoshop. I don't even know where to change it to sRGB. It is set on RGB right now, but I don't see any sRGB. I'm using CS2.

It has happened to me too lately. I haven't quite figured it out yet. I am uploading using SRGB. My image looks great until I save for the 150 kb limit, that's when it looses it's contrast and color.

Read Preparing for DPC challenges.

- especially the part on 'Converting to 'sRGB colour space'.

Where is the sRGB setting? If I can't get this to work, I'm going to unsubmit. I am not having an image that I'm not happy with in a challenge.

The Adobe CS programme uses the embedded colour profile to show your image...but when you go to SFW...it then uses the monitor profile to view. Hence the difference.

are you saving using save as or save for web? not sure but might make a diference. I used save as back when i had those issues and i always use save for web now.
12/18/2006 07:13:48 PM · #10
Use SFW...as this removes your EXIF info. What you need to do is make sure your monitor is sitting on sRGB profile. Your colour profiles are sitting in your Windows/System 32/spool/drivers/colour folder. When you go to your control panel/display/settings/advanced/colour management you should be able to click on Add and bring this up...also on your monitor you should be able to change brightness/contrast/colour all that stuff...make sure that is on sRGB!

I saved both ways to see it it made a differeance and it didn't. And besides, I'm just doing it the way I always have with no issues till now.

I still can't find sRGB. Ther is no "convert to profiles" tab when I go Image>Mode>...

CS2. Here is what I see:

In CS2 it is under the Edit menu...near the bottom.
12/18/2006 07:25:38 PM · #15
how about edit >color settings?
12/18/2006 07:28:23 PM · #16
Ok it was under the Edit menu. However, it was on sRGB already. This is so annoying...

Check your monitor profile then.
12/18/2006 07:34:12 PM · #18
Also check whether View>Proof Colors is checked. The default for proofing is usually "Working CMYK" and if proofing is turned on, that will mess with your mind big time.

Edit: So if it's checked, uncheck it!

try viewing it in safari and see if it makes a difference.
There is only so much you can do in saving for web, it's always gonna lose some punch...safari is the only browser (that I know of) that really displays colors correctly.

The rest just use a default color profile.

My monitor was already on sRGB too. I don't know what the problem is. I don't think it's on my end. I mean, I have all the same settings I've been using all along and never had any issues before. If I can't get this to work by tomorrow. I'm removing my photo and I'll post up my screen shot showing my issue.

They have safari for PC?

I know it will lose some punch, but this is (IMO) rather drastic. Not to mention I have never had any problems before and I have not changed any settings or options.

Thank you petrakka !! I viewed in Safari and see exactly what it looks like. In Firefox it looses contrast and color.

Does anyone know how to change Firefox so it views color like it should?

Make sure you go to View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB
Then on each photo worked on you go to View > Proof Colors

Edit to add... do this BEFORE you begin working on a project....
(learned that one by experience! :oP )

I don't think firefox can be changed. I think that's just one reason why safari is nice... (though I mostly use firefox)

But ...if safari makes your images look better, you most likely don't have them saved in the sRGB mode (because if they were they would probably look the same in every browser, because this is how the other browser views those images) ..

...so make sure you are converting the profile before uploading the images.

Wow, that was it. When I changed to those settings, the image in photoshop looked exactly like the image uploaded. Strange why that has never been an issue before. Thanks so much!
