Thanks to an extraordinarily generous member, Mystopia (and her husband I'm sure), I have just received a brand new computer with a Core Duo processor and a 250Gb Hard Drive and 2Gb of RAM to replace my dying machine. I am now logging off this machine and seeing if I have what it takes to effect the transition between the two.
Words can't express how grateful I am to Kat & Co for this wholly unexpected gift. What a wonderful community we are!
If all goes well I'll be back shortly. If I'm deficient at some level of transition, I assume I'll be able to get this one back up in the interim. But just in case, don't worry about me; I'm coming back stronger than ever :-)

Congrats, bear! SO glad to hear. How incredibly generous of Kat! I hope she got my PM about the Rolex and the 30D I want - I mean my son, Tiny Tim needs so he can exchange them for a kidney. ;-) |

Oh, what a lovely toy to have.
This is a thoughtful gift from some very nice people to a very nice person. That is what makes this community so worthwhile, and well, downright nice.

Would you settle for liver and fava beans with a nice Chianti?
Hey, Bear - - be sure to scan for spyware cuz if I had sent you a computer, I would have put some on there that emails me all your editing steps and secret sauce recipes. |

I already located that spyware. I have authenticated it and set it to "Always Receive"; Kat & Co deserve whatever they can get from me. Unfortunately, my ergonomic keyboard has an incompatible connection, so I am stuck with this straight keyboard for the moment and it is utterly messing up my typing. Took me several minutes to type this message. On the plus side, I got Firefox loaded ;-)
i'M NOT KIDDING; i KEEP HITTING CAPS LOCK INSTEAD OF SHIFT...
Gawd bless you, KAT!

Now to see if I CAN LOAD PHOTOSHOP AND PHOTOMATIX AND the Canon software.... |

Bear you are very welcome! Sorry about the keyboard issues. I can't use those darn ergonomic ones, they mess me up big time but hubby loves them! I am happy to see you back here so quickly! That didn't take long at all. I hope it is moving at the blazing speeds you hoped for.
On behalf of Computer Bob and I we wish you a Very Merry Christmas Robert!!
Art .. you never cease to crack me up!!!

YIPPEE for you Bear. Great gift, eh? (pssst - she told me and I knew all about it.)
Now we are expecting nothing but blue ribbons and a comment on EACH photo entered by others. ;~p |

That's amazing! - Very generous indeed.
Re: The keyboard issue. If your keyboard has a round connector but the PC only has USB connectors, (or vice versa), you can pick up an adapter fairly easily;
USB to PS/2
PS/2 to USB |
