Folks, I am suspended till the 22nd so won't be entering for a week. Team Novice teammates, I am so sorry to let you guys down, although my scores would likely have only brought our team closer to the brown...
Again, be sure to err on the side of caution in editing, even in advanced. If in doubt, submit a ticket. (Which I obviously should have done, but hindsight is much sharper than most of my photos :-)

Sorry about yout DQ
What do you mean by submit a ticket?

You can submit your photo in advance if in doubt, and the site council will let you know if it passes muster, so to speak.

Sorry about your suspension, but I figured it would happen. Put some stuff in your portfolio while your on break.

Sorry you wont' be there in this challenge. I know you really wanted to do the Pink Floyd shot. Don't wory, us members of Team Novice can suck with the best of them and we will make you proud.

Now I have to come up with a good PF shot. I'm trying to think of something that will stand out that won't be too difficult to do.

By the way, I didn't see your comment on my Life shot.

If it is possible, at all, for a student ever to move on from the condition of being Novice, then I'm sure the experience of disqualification must be a necessary element in enabling that advancement. Alternatively, the same element may indeed inspire an epiphany whereby the relative conditions and statuses of Novices and - er - whatever the other ones choose to call themselves, are revealed to be no more than straw men puffed up by paper tigers or some other metaphor for the negligible and irrelevant.

You'll be back, we'll be here, it'll be good.

I DID NOT enter the skys challenge. the reason i put the shot up here was i was at a local camera club meeting last nite and was telling Chaimelle about working on one for the challenge but didnt think i was going to get it done in time (which i didnt). So i put it up here so she could see it. Sorry i dont know all the rules here yet.
Do i need to remove it from my portfolio also?

Griz--took a look and left you a comment. Overall, a good first attempt, especially without advanced editing software!

I've definitely evolved, and I hope it continues. I started out using only my eyes. "Cool" shots grabbed my attention. Then it shifted to my brain - how could I create a certain effect, how I could use a neat technique. Now I'm starting to use my heart more.

This is a very good point about using your heart. That is what it takes for greatness.

"Submit a ticket" means go to the help menu and choose "contact us". You'll see a screen with various options. I think I've always used the second one to ask the SC about a possible entry and whether it meets the rules.

One thing to note is that the response isn't binding; DQ discussions involve the entire SC and possibly debate among them, whereas responses are usually the opinion of whichever SC members happens to pick it up.

But I do know they'll discuss pre-entry reviews, too, when appropriate.

Either way, you'll get the opinion, in advance, of a knowledgeable SC member who will do his/her best to predict whether a DQ is likely based on past experience.

My Dirt and For Sale are beginning to drop too. Must be some tired and/or cranky voters out there. I have noticed that when I am in a hurry or am particularly tired, I tend to vote a little lower.

The Dirt is now at 5.79 and For Sale is at 5.88. I've gotten 7 nice comments on the For Sale, one from Kelly, thanks!

Sky is sucking nicely, 4.7, but I had really expected worse (I hate it) -- brown ribbon perhaps. There's time yet. Don't know why I entered it. Was even thinking about withdrawing it.

This is astounding! I've never seen something with so many views during voting. And the Pet Portrait is great! -- even a Fav.

I'm been looking at the pet scores and I think it will take a 7 to get in the top 10... any way I won't hold my breath for a ribbon but it is my best score todate. The closest I'be been is 8th - I've got that 2 times. It sure would be nice to make it to the top 5. I could plant the Team Suck flag!

Assuming Sky holds up, it'll be my 4th shot in my top 5 taken at night, and 7th in my top 10 that uses a black background. Hmm. Think that means anything?

LOL!

I didn't mean about me, per se. More about my photography, or whether some semblance of a style was emerging.

Happy Christmas!!!

Yes, I signed my lease today - ich habe ein haus!! (I have a house. Well, really an apartment - need to look up that word.)

So Monday I go sit and wait for the first delivery of stuff - bikes, golf clubs, COMPUTER, etc. Tuesday the household goods arrive, and Wednesday I get to move out of the hotel. YAY!!!!

Scores - Dirt is doing well at 6.0; For Sale is sucking nicely at 5.0.
12/15/2006 02:06:24 PM · #2171
yaay for having a house!

Ooer. I turned my scores on as I couldn't resist a sneaky peak.

Pet Portrait is currently at 5.7.

If it stays that that would be easily my best score, tick off one of my objectives, possibly two if it's a top 50%.

sorry to hear about the DQ but you didn't let me down... i've been thrown out of so many places in my life that i sometimes walk into a place and throw myself out immediately to save time all around. anyway the way it's been going recently, i'm thinking about getting myself DQed just to fit in.

Sickdog, I think you're one cool dude. (I'm old, I'm allowed to say "cool dude". I even used to have Pink Floyd on vinyl but I don't anymore.) And I love your sense of humor.

In fact, I gotta say that Team Suck, in addition to having novel and unique photography, has the best sense of humor. It's quite delightful. Then again we have to to hang out with Don. :-)

And I haven't been dealing with hotel food, since the hotel doesn't have a restaurant. They do have breakfast - you get your choice of cereal, apple or orange juice, cold hard boiled eggs, english muffins, bagels or toast, or donuts. It's self-serve and it beats not having breakfast, but it does kinda lack in variety and warmth. They do have a toaster so you can heat the bread items. But to be in Germany, where the bread is amazing, and to be limited to store-bought English muffins and sliced bread is a bit disappointing.

Instead, for dinner I've been discovering restaurants. I haven't found a bad one yet. Last night I had Chinese food, in restaurant where the waiter spoke Chinese, English, and German. Quite the feat in my opinion!
