Lots of really cool application of the expert rules and I agree: I hope they stay. There's one or two that remind me of Scott Mutter's work or perhaps Jerry Uelsmann. (I happen to LOVE that kind of photo-art).

Mine just started dropping...don't make me go back through and re-evaluate. Now, bump mine up. It's the one with the sky in it.

Jerry Uelsmann, of course, did it all in the conventional darkroom. I just admire the HELL out of that guy :-) He was absolutely ground-breaking.

Oh, THAT one? I gave it a 4 'cuz it had too much sky. Almost all the shots have too much sky, except for the ones that don't have enough. The single exception is my shot, which has the perfect balance between sky and not-sky :-)

Wow - I got a wish list! Thats a first for me. Do you think that person will take me up on it as I actually have that one ready to go as a print! I will make a deal with any wish listers - I will set the price for 50 cents over cost after the challenge for two days only! (Why 50 cents you ask - a man has got to make a living somehow).

SCore wise - since this thread has gotten a little off topic - is a 6.9. Rock on!!!

I love the ruleset and really enjoyed this challenge. As someone who has painted, I know that "anything goes" does NOT make things easier.

Well done Tate! Just went for a walk to the playground with the kids and came back to a 7.1+. I am having the week of my DPC life! I dont expect this to be in the top 5 but I would gladly take another non ribbon 7 to add to my pile.

Why is that?

While there are some nice entries, this just isn't photography to me. I am just not a big composite fan.

I have to agree with you there, I don't like it. I came to DPC because it was a photography site, this challenge is turning DPC into another "Worth1000" site. ICK!

I started to vote but got bored quickly - I am not at 20% and will likely just let it lapse since my votes are probably not fair anyway. Sorry guys but there is only a couple of images that I even could call photos - most are just digital art to me and I just don't have the interest.
12/15/2006 11:24:25 AM · #98
In my voting, I've come across both some phenomenal images and some stuff I'd hope never to see on DPC again. I adjusted my votes accordingly. :) But I definitely feel like there is some very cool stuff in there.

I am sure I am not going to play in the next "Expert" Challenge as I can see that it makes no sense to have it if most are biased against the results. Might as well just keep it "Basic" and "Advanced". Not to expect digital art in this challenge is silly. I mean really with that rule set. I know mine was pushing the limits but I thought that was the idea I guess not.

I contemplated a self DQ but nah I am gonna wait and see if anyone gets the reference to my image. I am really disappointed that Routerguy666 missed it completely. :-P

Well that's my .02 come on 4's LOL

how strange, I haven't seen any "digital art" in this challenge yet. as I see digital art is when something is flying somewhere with lttle green men in the open space with angels and demons with lion heads around and a ghost ship on fire falling into parts which look like butterflies. :)
I would say I have seen many beautiful sunsets in this challenge and more than usual pieces of really original creative art (hmmm:) it is digital anyway since we use digital technics)

I really regret I was not in this firt challenge with expert rules but I will definitely be in the next one! (I only hope I won't get dq again til that time:)
