I was up over 7.3 a couple of times lastnight. This is what I woke up to this morning. Still hanging with ya Tim. Lots of time left though for you to walk away with it.

Still can't shake the 6.2s despite all the great comments. I think my score is suffering from poorly calibrated monitors. The few negative comments indicate this may be the case.

I will say this. If you are finding some of the images too dark PLEASE calibrate your monitor so you see all the shades of gray on the test strip on the bottom of every voting page!!!!!!! You are missing out on some great images.

another good thing to do with your monitors is wash the screen. I cleaned mine the other day and it made a huge difference.

I can't shake the 6.3s. It won't ribbon, but it's a great score; I'd just really like to get it in my top 5 so I can see it on my profile page. Three of my top 5 are within 0.07 of it, so there's plenty of time.

I'm jealous of all your comments, though!

Ya know, I did calibrate it, at least per a calibration page on the Web (I'm not going to spend a lot of money on it), and I still can't distinguish the last couple of bars on the right.

On the other hand, Bear_Music told me one aspect was too dark even though I can see the distinction in my entry, so I'm not sure the last bars are necessary.

I don't mean to hijack the thread; I know it's been discussed repeatedly in other forums. Just wanted to let you know the last couple of bars are tough.

On a properly calibrated monitor, it wil be extermely difficult to differentiate the last two bars. The second bar is only at a RGB value of 9,9,9. If you can see the differene between the last two bars easily, your black point is prolly not set correctly.

Then can we redo the gray scale so that people don't think you're supposed to be able to see all of them? I have no problem distinguishing the bright bars. I mean, I'm sitting in the dark with my nose 2 inches from the screen and I can't see the last 2 or 3 dark ones.

That is all the should be necessary. The last 2 bars are pretty much the same on mine. It's the monitors with the last 4 or 5 bars being all the same that are probably having issues.

If you use Photoshop, the Adobe Gamma is usefull too.

Agreed. have a high-end monitor, properly calibrated, and it's not possible to see any distinction between the tqo darkest bars on the scale unless the black point is improperly set.

I had a feeling... Saw a few amazing images that I just knew were going to be hit by poor calibration. I feel bad because they really do stand out.

That's how mine is. I can see a difference but only if I get my eye about two inches away from the screen then I can see a subtle difference.

I've suggested in the past for those that have poorly calibrated monitors to not use your eyes when trying to produce a black background but instead go by the RGB values you get when you sample the areas using the eyedropper tool. If you get them in the single digits you are ok but anything higher and your details will start to show too much and could make things very ugly for those viewing your photo on a brighter monitor. Calibrated or not there is no reason you can't produce good blacks or good whites.

I agree, Thursday can't get here fast enough. I don't care about the ribbon. I'd be happy to finish with a 7.x But I won't be giving a ribbon back if I win one. lol

With the quality of the shots in this challenge my entry might get me the brown. I believe that may qualify as the highest scoring brown in any challenge. I would be so honored!

Sir Timfy has 41 comments to my 29, 7 faves to my 3, 1 wish list to my 0, and I'm beating his score... Go figure... I definitely HOPE he is getting a ribbon :-)

If Timmy is Sir Tim, or Sir timfythetoo then you will have to be King Robert, or King Bear_Music

Whats cool is that this isnt really the challenge that I am paying attention to. These numbers are just childs play. ;)
