It seems I always get a reddish color cast on the face in my studio portraits. Very little sat bump on the shots. Any suggestions on correcting the problem, if anyone would like to make adjustment go for it, let me know you processing steps....Thanks for the help

I just desaturated the reds and magenta's using the hue/sat tool. Maybe I did it too much but I am at work and my monitor here is calibrated for CMYK offset printing.

I used two techinques. First one here for color correction.
And the second one from smugmug on skin tones. For this I used blue at .9 and reds at desaturated to -30 or so. Then I used a mask to put the color back in everywhere but her face and hair.
Also duplicated the photo and ran Luko USM techinque, and then faded it back since it looked alittle funky done to the already edited image.

If you always get that, you should check the white balance in the camera. Better to stop the problem than to rely on pp for it.

What white balance are you shooting with and under what lighting ?

I do about a 10% red desat to most portraits I give to clients if I don't go B&W with them.

Do you have anything red in your studio that could be reflecting a red cast back at your subject? |

Try this:
Open, Image, Adjustments, Match Color, check the Neutralize box, Slide Fade adjustment to suit,
in this case, about the 50% mark. I did that with the image you posted and went from

A couple of questions:
1) Are you using flash or strobes in your lighting?
2) What shutter speed is this shot at (affects amount of ambient light in the shot).
3) How bright is the ambient light in your studio?
4) What color are the walls, carpet, etc.?

your image seems a bit hyper-saturated too, is that from an in camera setting or photoshop? Skin tones often don't hold up very well with heavy saturation. |

I had the same problem when I started shooting portraits and it drove me crazy. I thought setting my white balance to flash was the right thing to do but I always had to remove some red and add some yellow. Then it dawned on me...you know...one of those thing that happens in the middle of the night and you wake from a sound sleep. My studio flash setup is a Novatron and they are daylight balanced! So the next day I tried setting the white balance to direct sunlight. Right on!
This was taken with direct sunlight white balance and is pretty much right from the camera except for editing some blemishes.
I'm not sure and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think an on camera flash is more on the blue side so thee flash setting adds red.
Granted I shoot with a Nikon but I am sure the same applies here if you are using studio flash.

printer4u has a good point, if you are using daylight balanced strobes |

Canon cameras run a bit red on skin tones. You can adjust that in-camera or in PP.
Custom WB is the best solution though.

I remember someone having this problem a while ago and found that his camera was set to saturated somehow... might want to check that out?

THANKS EVERYONE!!!.
I have 2 600 interfit strobes.
camera settings; 160 shutter, f8, 100iso
the left wall has a black cloth, right wall and ceiling white. (no red in the studio).
I shoot in raw, white balance set to flash.
Shhhhht; just check my camera settings I have the saturation set +2 and contrast set @ +1.....lol I've been doing more B&W lately and forgot I bump up those settings. And for some reason I like to bump up the saturation even more in photoshop.
Thanks again, some very good stuff..........ace
