But for the benefit of the team, I will share.
CONFIRM you can photograph at the venue before going.
I can probably start a website called Idiot Photographer with this one.
I saw that a cool band was going to perform locally. I emailed them and asked them if I could take some pictures. They responded saying 'if they allow cameras, go right ahead'. (Maybe they knew something I didn't.)
Well, guess what.
The other six times I went to this venue I had no problems with photographing the bands. So I charge my batteries, pack my gear, clean my lenses, and off I go.
I show up and...
Band Door Guard: "What's in the bag?"
Me: "Camera."
Band Door Guard: "No 'professional' equipment allowed."
Me: "Define 'professional'." (Thinking I'm not a professional.)
Band Door Guard: "Anything with removable lenses."
My Brain: "Aaaahhhhhhhh!!!!"
Club Manager: "You can still go in. We can keep the camera."
My Brain: "You're not getting my $x,xxx.00 equipment for a $12 cover charge!"
Me (waving bye): "Well, see ya."
The club manager challenged Band Door Guard, probably because he wanted my admission charge and any drink donations, but alas, band 'privacy' overrules the club manager. Fire burns paper.
I go home, debating on buying a 7MP+ Wal-Mart camera, without a removable lens, to take pictures and then return it the next day. Nah. Not worth it.
I email the band apologizing that I can't get uber-pictures.
Lesson learned.
