I just won a $50 gift certificate, and I'm thinking of, just for fun, blowing it on some tiny little 1 MP digicam. I've seen those little tiny fit-in-your-pocket ones, and they look fun. No, I'm not replacing my 4 MP cam, I'm just thinking I have free stuff, maybe it would be fun to have with me all the time. Anyone used one of these? Is it fun? |

Well my 2mp Canon S100 Digital Elph was considerably more than $50 but it is very small and I absolutely love it. I am never without a camera and it is great for those events where 4x6 photos are all you really need. The prices have really dropped on decent mini cams so anyone interested in photography may want to consider one to always have with them. You never know when you are going to find that great photo opportunity especially the photo journalism type shots where the subject matter is more important than the actual quality.

We gave our son a SiPix Style Cam Deluxe for Christmas. It's fine. Colours not bad and with a fixed focus it's a no-brainer. This is something he shot. It's around $90 Canadian. Charmander from Pokemon He's 5 and he's already better than me. :)

When I was photographing my friend's wedding reception with my F707 I gave my Digital Elph to a 13 year old kid and just told him to keep his hands from blocking the shutter and to have fun. He took over a hundred photos and many of them were good and very precious. I love the part where no money is spent on the lowsy shots where people's heads are cut off.

I can't take credit for that one Steve. I got it off a bathroom wall of a construction job I was on. Seriously.

That's something digital has all over chemical for learning-to-get-good-shots purposes; my grandfather taught me when I was little and first starting to play around with *his* cameras that film is cheap, and you should always expect to throw out 4/5 of what you shoot. This does get kind of pricey at $10-20/roll developing + purchase, but when it's digital? It costs you storage space. I HAVE kept very nearly every image I've ever digitally shot, for learning purposes, but I only edit up and post to my dump directory the ones I like. Going by Grandpa's proportion and strictest artistic rules, I should probably discard more than I do, but I'm not always going for 'artistic' - sometimes I'm trying to get 'a decent picture of what Thing X looks like.' I *am* rather pickier with what I upload to DPC, of course. :->

Well...possession is 9/10ths...
I'm going to send it to my mom.
I support always having a camera around, even if "cheap"...Isaac's Fuji A101 was around $100 US and does a darned fine job...I expect it to print 5x7 no problem and up to 8x10 with a little tweaking and bordering... |

Hi Steve, well I have one of those 1.3MP tiny digicams before and they are so light and easy to carry, it's just like carrying and extra keychain whenever I go out. The problem with mine was it does not have flash, but that's to expect from a camera this tiny (smaller than creditcard, 1cm thick). A fixed focus lense also means it takes me only a second to power it up and caught the shot. I've got lots of really funny photos captured by this tiny 1.3 than on any other camera due to it's portability and convenience (and speed!). Oh did I also mention that the tiny 1.3 can even record movies? it's so cool. But then the negative side of such a tiny camera is the photo quality. Also, you'll need steady hands since small shakes when pressing the shutter button will cause blurrs. |
