Just finished voting on the pics in both challenges.

The duotones were mostly excellent! Great shots. Tough competition there.

On the contrary, the home shots were mostly boring, snapshot style, out of focus, or just plain overall blah! About less than 10 stood out as good shots. No offense meant to those that entered (mine included), but rather an unispiring subject perhaps.

Is it just me or does anyone else share my opinion?

I agree.

I think the 'home sweet home' topic didn't lend itself to creativity as easily as the duotone challenge did...

I think Home Sweet Home would have lent itself to better opps if we didn't JUST do Postcard - thus expiring our 'local' shots as best we could.

I thought the Home Sweet Home challenge lent itself to more creativity than just about any other challenge we've had. However, I think that almost no one (myself included) took advantage of that. The challenge said to be creative, and very few people were.

It looks to me like less than 10 percent of the entries actually followed the
guidelines. I took the challenge literally and then tried to be creative as to
"where I live." I know there is another thread going about what criteria we
use to rate pics. If the shot doesn't follow the guidelines then I don't
rate it very high. Even if it's a great composition. What's the use of
a specific challenge if we can submit whatever we want and still get high
votes? Of course, if it's a creative way to present "where you live" then I
normally vote higher than usual. Creative submissions start out as a 3 or 4
and go up from there based on the choice of subject. Just my 2 cents worth.

The problem with strictly voting on whether a shot meets the challenge or not is that the "guidelines" aren't black and white. Where do I live? In a female body, in a two story house, on an older street with other houses, in a city, in the Eastern part of TN, in southern Appalachia, in the southern part of America, in North America, in the northern hemisphere, on Earth etc.

To me Home is much more than just the house I live in. There is a big difference between a house and a home. We are all different and like different things.

I thought I was being creative with my photo, but by looking at my current score it seems as though almost no one thought so.

It said "photograph the place you called home and be creative doing it", I was thinking it does not necessarily have to be the actual building, house, or whatever.

and lets not forget about the flower submissions in Home Sweet Home, LOL.

I'm all for lenient voting on the "meets the challenge" factor. I was just giving some examples of how many different interpretations there can be even if you're literal with it.
