It's just occurred to me that a lot of people are going to think that my entry is, in fact, yours. On the basis of this I predict that I may yet aspire to a score of, say, 5.1123.
Gesundheit. :)

I'm so insulted.:) You called your entry "disastrous" and we both got the exact same score -- 5.0000 (although I placed above you in the ranking - nananananaaana.) :P
My James Bond and Life entries are sucking along in the low 5s with one comment each. This is bad. I used to be able to generate bad comments and now I generate none at all. Maybe that's an improvement, or maybe I've lost my touch and become totally mediocre. WAIT, I am depressing myself, I'm going outside for some endorphins.
BTW, I'm in Dirt and For Sale. Don't know yet if I'll have an entry for Sky. |

I suspect that will be pretty close to my score. Of course, my death score is 4.70, so 5.1 might be aiming a bit *high* at this point in my illustrious DPC career, if you can call it that :-) |

Anyone in the for sale challenge? I've got one that while I like, something feels slightly off - and can't quite place my finger on what. I'm counting on my excellent teammates to tell me what it is. I get great comments from you folks! |

Alright! I want to join Team Minus!! I have remembered/realized that if I happen not to submit one week it won't necessarly mess everyone else up - I hadn't thought about that when I replied earlier.
I have to be careful sometimes, with the phyical and energy limitations I have, about what I commit to - so I will join only if the rest of Team Minus promises that if I'm slacking off too much and they want to replace me, they can let me know that without feeling bad.
I really think that this won't be a problem with energy and such but I just really have to be overly cautious sometimes. I definitely don't want to let anybody down. |

Really I think the ethos for this place is more to take pride in what you do, rather than to try and get the best score or compete in every single challenge.
So I doubt that you need to be worried about letting folk down. Welcome, and enjoy the suck league! |

I'm in dirt. A nice, simple, in focus, no wow kind of shot. I predict a high 4/low 5. Again. I was trying to get a pet portrait tonight, but my dog will not sit still long enough for a slow shutter speed, so I might try something outside tomorrow. Or I might try to find something for sale. OR I might just say never mind. Not even trying for the sky challenge (I don't think), and I have one in free study that I like but has NO wow factor so will do poorly.
Actually, I've been looking at some other portfolios and getting depressed over my lack of talent. I am trying to convince myself that maybe it's not really a lack of talent but a lack of education, but it's not working! |

Welcome, glad you reconsidered and, relax, you'll do fine. Posthumous will be around sometime to make it official. |

Not lack of talent. Just maybe it is talent in a different style than others. This was one of my absolute favorites for that challenge. I was so afraid it wouldn't do well due to the grain but I was overjoyed to see that it did. It's a beautifully done image. So is this one - a simple subject but presented in a beautifully artistic way. And I loved this entry (I was the 10 vote). If you compare that image to other "wow factor" images then you might see a lack of talent but what I see is creativity and the ability to view photography with fresh eyes, which is really inspiring. |

Thank you Kelly! The spots was an accident--I was taking pictures of a cave in a local park, and when I got home and looked at it there were the spots. I wish they had been in focus, but then I couldn't even see them when I took the shot! I entered it for fun. I have gotten a lot of shots I like, but I wish I could do it consistantly. Sometimes it is a lack of processing skills, and I hope to take a class someday. It is when I look at the profiles of really talented photographers/artists (ursula and drachoo come to mind, but there are many others I have looked at over the past few months) that I realize I have far to go. At least it is a fun journey!
And welcome to Team Suck! |

I'm in Dirt with some exaggerated editing. (Nothing illegal!) But, I'm sure my score will suffer for it.

I just got one today for "For Sale". I don't think it will do that well. However, I don't think they will be able to get me for excessive processing. |

I have a question. What if we showed our challenges to fellow team suck members for their input before the challenge and then just NOT vote or comment on them during the challenge? Is that illegal? I read in some thread a while back where you could send your challenges to some DPC memebers for help prior to the challenge start date. Just a thought. |

Bad idea - this is colluding challenge behavior. |

Give me some opinions...please. I took some pet portraits today, but the best one has the pet's very edge of the paws cut off. Do you think I'd tank badly for that? Other than that, it's a really cute shot. I still have a couple days to try again.

You have until Tuesday midnight so I would try again. You can always fall back on the cute shot. Sometimes you have to go with you like and develop a tough skin about the comments. |

I regularly get depressed by what I perceive as lack of talent too. Sometimes I look at other people's portfolios and want to cry, I have so far to go...and do I even have the capacity to get there?
When I look at your photos, though chaimelle I'm pretty inspired. I think the stationery photo is brilliant, for example. Please don't sell yourself short! |

noraneko, i love your light on white shot.
a lot of the 'talent' you see here comes from shooting a lot. and i mean a lot. when i was doing photgraphy degree, i shot 10 rolls a day. take your camera everywhere. shoot everything. then look at what you have, and really analyze it. look at the angles, the exposure, the composition.
look at a lot of artwork as well, not just photographers but other artists too. an ideal place to strat for compostional ideas is degas. his paintings and drawings were greatly imnformed by photography, and it's a good way to consider the compositional elements of an artwork.
as the old joke goes - how do you get carnegie hall? practice.
i'm in dirt - and i've even used models from outside my immediate family...

Glad to have you in Team Minus, Kelly!
My Dirt photos were so bad that I'm not even going to enter them. But I will definitely be in Pet Portrait and Sky. The Sky picture in my head is a blue ribbon. But I have a feeling that the process of getting it out of my head will do some damage...
The Pet Portrait in my head is not a ribbon, but it is a high 5 with 10 favorites. That too has a treacherous path to take, though...
