I just know that some customers will have a hard time understanding the concept of 'cropping' images, and could use some advice on how to explain their choices in layman's terms.
We're listing the sizes in their original format (2/3) first in the available choices, and recommending they find frames at Hobby Lobby (or wherever). Some people will simply want the sizes available at Wal-Mart, and we are having a hard time following the KISS rule (Keep It Simple, Silly!)
Also, we are hosted on SmugMug & realize that they offer a real-time crop before ordering, but some of our customers are still on dial-up. We could really really use a little help guys/gals/etc. Thanks!!!
(PS - If this belongs in the biz forum, please move as needed - we're just hoping for quick help on this, as the customer is expecting a solution tonight.) |

I also host with Smugmug, and I find it's easiest to upload a version that will crop correctly no matter what generic size someone may want. It's a bit more work on the front end, but worth it later when it just comes out right. Another option is to upload (or duplicate and crop once uploaded) different versions and name/caption them with 4x6, 5x7, etc.
The alternative is to order the prints for them, but that involves collecting payment in some fashion.

If you have a Pro account, smugmug lets you "fix" the crop after they place the order. All you have to do is set a 1-or-more day delay between when the customer places the order and when it ships. During the delay that you specify, you can do touch-up work and re-upload the image or simply adjust the crop for them if that's all that's necessary.

Billy I have this linked on my smugmug page:
//www.amstudiosonline.com/gallery/1691025
You get it by clicking help on my home page. You can also only offer prints that you don't need to crop. If you don't put a price in there it won't be offered.
