how to edit this photo... the water I wish was more pronounced and the yellowish color on the edge of the waterfall is just extremely distracting. I have tried editting over and over again and I just am not happy with the results. Here is the original below... someone please help me and tell me what you did so that I can do it too... thanks so much...

For me just playing with it a bit, a tighter crop works better.

How about a bit of selective desat?
(I'm only a beginner :) |

Crystal, try adding an adjustment layer for Hue/Sat. Lower the yellow, then use a mask to selectively bring some yellow back to where you DO want to see it. |

I do like that... cuz the green water and the yellowish color were horribly distracting to me, however I would like to have some color in the water that is normal...i've tried just black n white, and i dont like it, I suck at desat (i use corel paint shop pro). I'm just frustrated with this picture, but I like the angle of this picture. GRRRRR |

Beetle may have the answer if you can do adjustment layers in PSP. |

Is this any better?
I tried to keep the colours about the same, but make them blend better with the rest. Was that your idea?

The crop is obvious... but I really think it begs for B&W
This was done with dual Hue/Sat layers for a quick B&W conversion. I then used a levels layer to lighten the stone work a bit (by upping the midtones). A curves adjustment (for an s-curve) and smart sharpen.
Edit: if I had more time and a bigger file, I'd also clone out the crane in the background and run a bit of Noise Reduction on the sky.

In that case I should tell you what I did. It's easy, because I only know basic photoshopping :)
I used the magnetic lasso tool to select the waterfall and water and played with the colour, dropping the yellows and greens a bit, raising the blue just a touch, then dropped the saturation a little.
I then used shadow/highlight on the whole thing to try to bring them out a bit more, (can do the same with levels, mostly midtone adjustments). Just a TOUCH more colour play on the whole thing.
That's about it, I think :) |

ok, I took everyone's ideas and kinda merged them into my edit (below). I didn't realize all the background noise of like the crane and building and stuff... so I removed it, and I made the yellow less harsh, and just lightened the color of water and cropped down the picture. Tell me what you think compared to the original... thanks!

see now i wish i knew how to do the two above me, i dont have the magnetic lasso with the corel photo shop pro, just free hand selection. And it's not easy on a laptop with no extended mouse. I wish I could get a normal tone with the concrete look... i'll keep trying I suppose. |

I think the cropping needs some working on, especially the bottom part of the photo.

yeah i realized that, and in my post edit, I did have that.. just the yellow drives me crazy.. and the program i'm using, i'm still getting used to.. i can't afford Adobe photoshop, and already used up the 30 day trial there... I have 27 days left on Corel now... So if anyone else uses Corel Paint Shop Pro and could help me edit it the ways it's been editted... i'm just babbling now.. lol... but i like the picture a bunch, and am loving the edits.. I just wish I could do it. :( |

you can download gimp, gimp is also good software , and there are a lot of things you can do with imagemagick.
There might be few more free softies around, people can add. |
