They are a really impressive set of photographs, suckers. Mind you, I actually chickened out of voting on free study on account of the gob-smackingly high standard overall. Even so, the set of pictures that the inimicable quiet_observation fired up for us there could make a small coffee table book for Christmas. Or for putting on the coffee table. Or for flicking through from time to time to look at the pictures. Christmas could have on too, of course. Especially if Christmas knew what it was for.

Damn, we're good. And thanks for both comments, Don - very much appreciated. Now here's the scary part - both you and Doc liked it. It did indeed score much higher than I expected, which may - MAY - indicate that there's hope for us yet!

Every now and then, Doc "gets it." ;)

Just quickly went through the death pix - some are definitely, IMHO, dubious taste. Others are quite well done.

SO I'm back to sucking (legally) as per usual! I'm going for Dirt, Pets and Sky...maybe I'll combine all three into one shot. Guess now that everyone knows what my cat looks like, better go do a portrait of bf's pet.

Wonderful free study shots, suckers! Two photographers actually inspired me so much I wrote "thank you" in my comment, and both of them are on the Hoovers.

Welcome back Naomi! We've missed you!

And Mary, where did your camera go???????

I'm still holding onto a 5 (but just barely) in Life.

I think he "gets it" more than every now and then actually, but he sticks with tried and true for his own shots. I kinda wish he'd step on at least the edge of the box now and then and post those in his portfolio. The man has potential. :-)

And may I just say, for the record, that my piddlin' little 53% Free Study entry has 37 comments (to present) to marksimms 24 comments on his far technically superior 18th place shot, and 4 faves to his 1. For some odd reason, I get a great deal of satisfaction out of those numbers.

I've learnt a few lessons, which I shall share -

1. White means white, not murky grey.
2. Cliche shots with crushed up sweets don't do very well, even if they are technically fine.
3. What looks like a lovely colour shade to you will be rejected by voters as an unintended colour cast.

David: I sent you an email with some editing ideas.

For #1, yep.

For #2, a lovely color shade works nicely in the background, but people know that white hearts are white, not pink, so it looks off when they're not white.

that dead whale i thought had been towed? well, it hadn't. i was drivign by, and saw it, and the divers getting ready, so i stopped and snapped a whole whack of pics. hopefully, one will get into the provincial paper. cross fingers...

thanks very much for all the lovely comments from everyone. makes me feel guilty that i've been so remiss in my commenting. i will try, but just to let everyone know how much i appreciate them. so

THANK YOU!

You're in the right place. We don't hide our faces over scores. BTW speaking of your face. I haven't seen it yet, where's your profile shot?

I, too, wanna say thanks for all the wonderful comments. You guys are really a great group of folks to hang with and are very much appreciated!

I'll try to get to everyone's free study at some point this weekend.

It's weird. In your version where the sweet is white, the coloured sweets look too coloured, compared to the real life ones. Oddness.

Just finished voting on LIFE, so now it's time to turn my attention to Death, so to speak.

I haven't put one up yet but you can go to

//www.dpchallenge.com/portfolio.php?USER_ID=20530&collection_id=14105

to see me and my fiance at the florida GTG last year with Greatandsmall. actually, we were the only three who showed but we had a blast.

That doesn't shock me - the white can be white, or at least a shade of gray that seems white, while other colors get strange. You'd then adjust them using saturation, hue, etc. The point is really that you can remove the overall "pinking" of everything and work to restore the true color. That also greatly improves the contrast.

I wouldlike to apologise to dear team and everyone:)
I've just been disqualified for the third time in a row so I can't participate in challenges until the next year.
I am sorry for that and it's my fault because the year on my camera was set to 2005.......
yeah:) it happens. more often with someone than with others but still...happens.

Oops. It's a shame if you get a suspension for a wrong date, which is clearly just a mistake. I suppose they have to apply the rules though.

Make sure to set it for the new year, when you can come back in to take more shots!

I hope you keep shooting, and put in your portfolio. Love your work. Have to say you don't suck at all.

Your 'work' (why do people call it that?) is astonishingly good. Do not be a stranger. Did you ring the guy about the lense?
