I have a Nikon D80 with the 18-135MM lens on it but am now looking for another lens. I'm looking at the 2 lens posted in the subject line. The type of photography I like to do is Still-Life, Landscapes, Cars, and sometimes action sports like cars racing. I need a lens that will offer a wide angle but is also telephoto. I need it to work good indoors and outdoors, one that won't blur moving objects, and performs good.

Could you recommed which one is the best?

EDIT: Would these be a good choice for what I want to do? I mainly take still-life, landscapes and pictures of cars. Would I be better off with a wide angle zoom lens, like the Sigma 10-20MM or the Sigma 12-24MM Lens?

I've considered both these lens as they would be really handy. Unfortunately they're too good to be true. Image quality is pretty shoddy compared to most other lens out there.

Note: I'm not saying it's not possible to take good photos with these lens, I'm just saying there are much better lens out there.

Not all of them may be taken with the same camera as you own but you can check out samples at Pbase:

Sigma 18-200mm samples (Click on more after clicking on link to cycle through pictures)

Tamron 18-200mm (Click on more after clicking on link to cycle through pictures)

Why do you feel you need another lens in about the same range? You need more zoom? Wider?

Tokina 10-17 fisheye might be of interest to you. A copy of the Pentax 10-17mm fisheye. First fisheye zoom for Nikon and or Canon. I don't believe it is out yet but you can check out samples of the Pentax original lens.

Thanks for the links, I'll check those out.

Yeah, I'd like one with more zoom and is a little more wider. I too have questioned about getting a 18-200MM lens when I allready have the 18-135MM lens on the D80. Would it be better to go with a 28-300MM lens from Sigma or Tamron?

Remember that all in ones are usually not has sharp as primes (50mm, 77mm, etc) Large zooms are heavy too if that matters. Focus distance might affect your picture taking (remedied with extension tubes) also.

Weight isn't really a problem. Out of the Tamron and Sigma? Which one is sharper? Would it be better to go with a 28-300MM Lens? or should I just get a wide angle zoom for still-life, landscapes and cars? I'm looking at the Sigma 10-20MM for a wide angle lens.

Okay so I've changed my mind about getting the 18-200MM lens. I'm now looking at a Nikon 18-35MM wide angle zoom lens or a Sigma 28-300MM Lens.

Which one would be best for what I like to do?

I LOVE the Sigma 18-200 and would buy it again in a heart beat. If you want one walk around lense, this is a great one. It is small, light weight, and an awesome zoom range.

Are there better lenses? Yes, of course. But, for $300, you will not find a better deal covering this zoom range.

Sigma 18-200

Here is one of my favorite photos, which was taken at 1/25 sec... this lense is light weight, so it is fairly common to get crisp photos at low shutter speeds.

How about the Sigma 18-200 OS? (When it becomes available) Of course, it will probably cost more than the 18-200. //www.sigmaphoto.com/news/news.asp?nID=3277

Every lens is a compromise. A "superzoom" compromises IQ and speed. A prime compromises zoom range (versatility).

L glass is bad for price--you could buy a lot more consumer lenses for the money.

There's no one lens that does everything you want. Pick one shooting style and a price, and then we can help you.

Your needs sound similar to mine.
You have 18-35 covered with your 18-135 which i also have and have found it amazingly sharp for a kit lens.
You could go for something wider like the sigma 10-20mm which i got yesterday and is excellent.
At the long end i have the nikon 70-300mmf4-5.6G which cost me just £76 new. I only picked it up from the post office an hour ago so i`ve not tested it yet but it`s meant to be good for the price.

Okay, well I went to my local camera store and looked at some lenses. I looked at the Sigma 10-20MM Wide Angle Zoom lens, attached it to a Nikon D80, which is what I have, looked through the view finder and was quite happy with it so I bought the Sigma 10-20MM lens, which I'll be picking up tonight.

I also looked at the Nikon 12-24MM lens but didn't get it due to it's price.
