I've gone through about half the entries so far this morning and had to take a break from looking at so much....garbage! Man, some if it is really sickening to look at very long. And when you get several of those very realistic photos of very gross looking "things" all one after another, well....I gotta stop for a while! But there are definitely some very interesting shots here this week. How I enjoy all the different ideas and interpretations here! |

I had a feeling that this challenge would be a good one for sorting out the people who rely on their subject matter rather than photographic technique to make their photos appealing. You should be able to take an appealing photo of ANYTHING if you know what you're doing, but a lot of these, I agree, are hard to sit through and vote on.
I put a lot of thought into how to take a photo that brought out appeal in the textures and colours of my subject, and I thought I did pretty well, but unfortunately the score is around 4.6 :(. No comments yet, but someone has told me it's not obviously a photo of garbage, so maybe that's why. Oh well.

Looks like people took the subject pretty literally...too literally? :) |

I had to start over voting. I was going "EEWW gross - 3" . Now whenever I have that thought I stop and think "what if the challange was puppies and that soda can were a puppy - then would it be a good shot?" I'd be curious to see if all the scores are lower than usual. Is a bad pictures of a cigarette but worse than a bad picture of a flower? |

That implies to me that the photo was able to evoke an emotional response and is therefor an effective presentation of the assigned subject. If something's able to gross me out it'll likely get a 7-8-9...
Unfortunately in the part of the US where I live I've had to become quite inured to the sight of trash in all it's manifestations...

Hey, I made mine artistic looking, through legal means of course, and it's getting low scores as well. It seems no one wants ugly garbage OR pretty garbage.

I will give people leeway on the intepretation of garbage and waste. If someone has shot the contents of their trashcan at home, or a dumpster, you can be sure it doesn't evoke much for me, and thereby gets a poor score. On the other hand, if someone takes a creative approach with the subject and comes up with an appealing picture, that will do well in my book! Jakob |

I definitly read the voters wrong. I didn't take a picture of some trash/garbage that was set up, but I see some people did. I bet they will be the ones to win. If I only.....lol. My picture was not set up. And it is getting a low score. Why? No one says. I think it is appealing. I think people should not be allowed to vote the first night. Their already mad, because their last photo didn't do to hot. Just a thought. lol |

I found about 5 really good shots in the bunch. I agree that it is a challenge where the average shot isn't all that great compared to other challenges. However, there is one picture that totally stands out as head-and-shoulders above the rest IMO so it obviously wasn't an impossible challenge. I, for one, just never came up with a good idea. I wasn't all that interested in the topic even if it is challenging so I expected the score I'm receiving. Back to voting *sigh* ... |
