Dang, I thought this was going to be a discussion about Joe Dirt.

From Cambridge Dictionary:

1 dust, earth or any substance that makes a surface not clean:
His coat was covered with dirt.

2 MAINLY US loose earth on the ground:
After I'd finished gardening, there was dirt from the flower beds all over the path.

3 INFORMAL excrement:
I got some dog dirt on my shoes.

4 INFORMAL unpleasant or bad details about someone's private life, which are repeated or published to stop other people admiring them:
Journalists are always digging for (= trying to discover) dirt.

Pick your meaning and have fun with it, thats what I say.

Just as well I read this thread - I would have been very confused as to why people had enetered photos of perfectly 'clean' compost and soil....
To me the word 'dirt' conjures up grime - a word with strong negative connotations.

Skip! Impossible to submit an entry that will not be DNMC'd by many. Even based on this forum thread, the "real" definition of "dirt" has been interpreted far more narrowly than the topic description. Definitely skip!

Since there are no details on the "Dirt" challenge, could it be dirt as in the recent Britney Spears photos? You know...gossip-like dirt? :-)
