I hope this wasn't linked somewhere else that I missed, but this is kind of an interesting link. A lawyer created a downloadable flyer about a photographer's rights, what's permissable and what to do if you're harassed. Might be handy given some of the recent posts about flash cards getting taken, etc.

Thank you, this is very useful for us foreigners who are considered suspicious anyway. |

Thank you -- and the author. There's a link to a downloadable PDF version which he suggests printing and carring in your camera bag or wallet. |

But who is defined as the "photographer" in this context? Anyone that carries a camera? Does that mean everyone with a camera in hand have the rights to shoot and is protected by this "right" ? I'm just curious. |

did you read the disclamer??? it says its just a general education guide about the right to take photographs and is necessarily limited in scope.
I like it, printed it out and will put a copy in each camera bag and one in the glove box of the truck

Sure. If you are taking pictures, you are a photographer. I don't think there is a need to unnecessarily complicate this, these are basic civil rights we're talking about...available to everyone.

Thanks for posting this - I'm going to the US in about a week's time and was a little concerned about all these stories of people hassling photographers.
