Too bad I didn't get a shot of the hawk nailing the quail in my backyard this morning! I saw the entire killing, all-the-while my sweet cockatiel was on my shoulders and witnessed the ordeal, too. The remaining 100+ quail flew off in a flutter. The hawk killed the bird on his dive hit. Unbelievable.

That's what the quail must be thinking in bird heaven!

So how much does therapy cost for a cockatiel, anyway? ;)

Just had a look at the first "Life" challenge..very much an open challenge which is great. The small difference being that the original challenge asked for submissions that show you interpretation for life and this challenge is asking us to celebrate life.
Have a picture all ready to submit, but holding back while I debate the virtues of one version over the other... :) |

Looking forward to seeing everything out of the box...I like out of the box...wish there were more out of the boxes...and in fact we should have a new abbreviation OOTB...IMO :)
Been out of the box for the last 2 challenges ...the first served me well, and the second has been met with mediocre warmth...got one comment in fact of "tacky" and am still wondering how it can be "tacky"...but it's a new week and I can't wait for the next challenge! |

I've got my flower in a baby's hand, lying on a bed of daisies with a cockatiel reflected in the eye shot & entered into 'life'. Good to go!

ah man...that was my shot: okay will have to go with the backup...newly hatched yellow chick, nibbling on my finger on a bed of backlit, near- transparent, frail green leaves....soft focus...and reflected in its eye is a beautiful landscape with a sunrise, over majestic mountains which are in turn reflected in a dark lake, and the broken remains of a jetty disappearing into a vanishing point.... :) |

With less than 12 hours to deadline, Death is leading Life 172-120. What does this say about the collective mindset of DPC photographers? And yes, I entered "Death" myself...

Well for one...it is cold throughout most of the country and northern hemisphere. So not a ton of life-y type shots out and about because most people just aren't out. You know? And winter subtley implies death anyway, so it is probably sub-consciously on our minds. I bet the numbers would be flipped come late Spring. Just a guess though..

Shot this a few days too early but I think it illustrates the meaning of life quite well...

see... why does this always happen to me?
less than 10 hrs to the deadline and i've just now, this moment, come up with a workable idea that will take me several hours to set up.
being that it's my son's 3rd birthday and i'll be stuck at chuck of the cheese tonight, i'm going to be very rushed.
grrr...

dayumn. Just enough time for one more reshoot, then I can HDR it and re-enter. Shoe-in.

I entered the Life challenge but when I set it up and took it I hadn't read the challenge description, I was just going by the title. So while my photo definitely shows life, I am not sure it shows the "celebration of life". Now I am wondering if I should pull it.
