142 + one challenges entered, no DQ. I've only had two voting period validation requests, for the User Name challenge, and my Fireworks for the August Free Study. |

it's funny to me to see yet another thread where people who do not qualify for the OP post anyway. This is one of the few achievements I have made! :P

Never in a 100 challenges, never been asked for the file, besides the three times I won a ribbon.

Which raises the question...WHAT IS the statute of limitations on validations? |
There isn't one. According to the Challenge Rules, voters can only request DQ on an image up until the end of the Results Phase for the challenge to which the image was entered (a week after voting ends), but that rule does not limit the Site Council's ability to request proof. That said, it's exceedingly rare for us to request an original on an older entry.

You did. Since the rules at the time of that challenge called for disqualified images to be hidden from results, it's not visible in your profile.

So what you are saying is, if we run across an image that for whatever reason we find suspicious, we can't request validation beyond seven days? Do we alert the Site Council to the image, or do they get a pass because Site Council didn't find it? I have several images in my mind that have photographer's notes that clearly state that they used steps that I have been told are not legal. I also ran across two ribbon winners from 2002 that show exposure dates in 2000 & 2001 (but I guess they would have been validated at the time?).
I'm not trying to be a PITA, I'm just curious.
EDIT - and, 51 completed challenges, 2 running and 1 more yet to start and no DQ's. One validation request during a challenge.

Remember, the rules haven't always been what they are now. When DPC first started, there was no one week limitation. |

You can always share your concerns with Site Council via a ticket; just understand that our actions will most likely be more limited than they would have been had the images been reported in a timely manner. We have to consider that lots of things can happen to an original in 5 years, and also that some previously very active users no longer use the site at all, and no longer keep their contact information current with us. Consider, for example, if someone raised a question on one of kimbly's photos. We have no way to reach her to request an original, but it wouldn't really be fair to DQ for non-response, either.
We also need to consider that the rules, camera technology, and evidentiary standards were all different in 2002. As one example, many cameras did not support EXIF, and we did not at that time DQ for EXIF dates outside the challenge dates. Later abuses caused us to change that, but we don't apply rule changes retroactively.
