Can't wait, Lord give me patience, but now I need it YESTERDAY! |
nooo pay the extra and get the 2.8 dont cheap out! |
I would, but it is also twice the weight. It means a lot to me, because I need to carry all my stuff, for months at a time (not just camera gear, ALL!) So, I will have the f/4L sunday some tÃme ... can't wait! And if it should be too slow some day, I know that L glass holds up it's value.

I just got my new lens, but it is not in the list here on DPC. Where does one request to have it added? There is already the non-IS version, but I would like to register the
Canon EF 70-200mm F/4L IS USM
It is well below freezing here (Anchorage), and dark, but I still feel like going and to try it already, NOW! It sure looks weird on a 400D/XTi. It feels more like the camera is being mounted to the lens, than lens being mounted to the camera!

Congrats on the lens! :-)
Hmmm... I think I said this already in this thread so I'll just cut and paste:
My guess is ... if you do get that lens, you'll want a bigger body on the back of it just to help stabilize it and give you something more to hold onto.

It's not that it is impractical, it is only the looks that are strange! It feels good (but that is only because I have not held a larger body yet). With my current level of limited expertice, I feel I get more for the money in this glass than in a more expensive body. Later I might want to have two bodies, one for backup, when my luggage requirements are less strict, and then the 400/XTi can be my backup :-)
I did some testing here in Anchorage, it is around 3 F (-16 C), so a 40 minute walk gave me cold feet and fingers! (Plain shoes, the rest of the clothing was OK for the conditions). I later found I could operate the camera with gloves on, great!
This is one of the more impressive shots, not the image, but the sharpness. Half a second, handheld, at 183mm:
