I had a wonderful opportunity to shoot maternity portraits for a young couple today. I had never tried it before and was glad to get the experience. I "borrowed" a lot from jpochard and BrenB so I hope that's ok. ;)

Here are some favorites:

She's due in 10 days so I doubt I have the opportunity to reshoot but I think they'll be pleased with the results. As always, comments are appreciated.

These are BEAUTIFUL Laurie! I love how soft and delicate they all look. What a wonderful set of shots! I can't even decide which one is my favorite. Very well done!

Excellent work, Laurie. I especially like the soft focus effect on the last one. Nice job, girl! :)

Beautiful, Laurie! If I ever get pregnant, I'd want you to take my pictures. ;-)

I'll be sure to remember that. ;)

Thanks for the comments so far, folks. I tried to work with the light and the softness to create a mood. I wouldn't mind doing more maternity shoots like this one in the future...I felt more comfortable doing this than I do shooting regular portraits.

These are beautiful Laurie! The softness and poses are perfect. I love how natural they are also.
Very nice work!

Just curious... completely natural light? Or did you use a reflector or some other fill?

I'm still in awe about these images. I want to be taking the same kind of pictures some day. You've set the bar awfully high!

Awww thanks! I was happy with them and hope that Michelle will be as well. She will see them this week.

I used window light and the on-camera flash, dialed down to -1.0 to help fill in as much as I could without over-doing it. I also had a bounce card (cheapie piece of posterboard-sized foam core) aimed at her, held up with my legs while I was shooting. Not the most professional setup, but hey, it works. ;)

Thanks again guys. I felt really good with this whole experience and hope to do it again sometime!

You know, you'd think that working with pregnant students I would have done maternity shots before, but all of our students are underage and I didn't know if it was appropriate in a school setting to do this kind of shoot. Do you have any input as to whether or not you think it would be appropriate for teenaged girls who are expecting to have this kind of portrait session? Do you think the girls' parents would be willing to sign for permission for shots of this nature? I have mixed feelings about it and wonder what your thoughts might be.
