My postcard has dropped to 4.95. Argh.

TEAM SUCK RESULTS

BLUE======The Hoovers 5.9652
RED=======Team Novice 5.29566666666
YELLOW====The OOFers 5.2115
BROWN=====Team Minus 5.16413333333

Sadly, Team Entropy only had two participants this week. Hopefully, with mist back you'll be ok. But feel free to recruit another member if you wish.

This means that as well as announcing Oobies and Yappies, The Hoovers may now ask for nominations for yet more Oobies and Yappies... they really kicked our butts this week, thanks to Melethia's egregious score. I really don't know what she was thinking...

See, Team Entropy are taking suck to a new level, by sucking at actually entering the contests.

Let's open the doors to more people, that we may be able to take the coveted brown ribbon.

Laugh. I'm just hoping I continue to be the same guy who posted those scores. ;)

Go Hoovers, Go Hoovers! :) You thoroughly spanked the rest of us.

Don, remind me how you calculate these again? Average of high scores?
11/22/2006 02:39:41 PM · #1156
The new novice teamsters have evidently dragged us out of the slough of despond - along with a huge number of decimal places. The heights are dizzying. Congratulations and thanks to the hoovers for not letting us get too carried away with ourselves.
11/22/2006 02:55:41 PM · #1157
I've got to say those scores posted by Hoovers are not even close to being in suck range. 5.9??? Great job, but your suck quotient is lagging, I'm afraid...

11/22/2006 02:58:54 PM · #1158
What about changing the average based on the top 3 scores? If it were calculated that way, team entropy would at least be in on the action.

First, I take the high score for each player on the team. Then I take the average of the top three scores.

As to just taking the top 3 scores, well, then wouldn't I have to do that for everybody? I like the idea that three players are involved in obtaining the score each week. That makes it all teamy and participationy.

Team Entropy just needs a little kick...

p.s. I loved everybody's pictures this week. Fun, inventive and lovely to look at. Suck proudly!

Yeah, not really much point in changing the way results are worked out, it's not like the fate of the world depends upon it, after all. Entropy will just have to do better entering challenges. I have a "good" idea for light on white (which will probably suck)
11/22/2006 03:28:28 PM · #1161
I humbly bow my head in shame. But by gosh, it was a kick-ass leopard picture and I simply had to enter it in hopes that I'd make one of my secret non-suck (more shame) goals. Yes, I hope to some day, some year, get a shot in the top ten. I have no ribbon goals at all - just a top ten will be more than fine, thank you. Came close!

I do have a self DQ now though. So I must be on my toes for the next 25 challenges or something. Like I ever do anything more than levels, curves, crop, sharpen, resize for web anyway... My self DQ wasn't due to a low score - it was 5.6 when I pulled it - but it had a grammatical error in a language I don't speak. Should have just left the darn thing in English! Live and learn.

As for Perspective, all I can say is there's really something weird afoot in that one. WAY too many seriously high scores were being posted in the scores thread. Mine was up there. I have no idea why. It's a good perspective shot, yes, but high scoring? I wouldn't have thought so. With luck, it'll move back down into reasonably acceptable suck range soon.

On the "I moved to Germany" front - I passed my driver's test (not a minor feat here) and got my truck. Still have to work at finding a place to live. Not speaking the language is one very major obstacle. Another is that in Germany, apartments come with walls, and that's about it. The kitchen (kuche, with two dots over the u) has nothing. Not even the kitchen sink. Apparently you move all that with you, and then pay people to install it. The bathrooms have no mirrors, though they do have sinks, tubs/showers, and toiletten. The bedrooms have no closets. And the ceilings have dangling wires so you can install your light fixtures.

There are some landlords who deal with American tenants and have kitchens installed. You'll still not get closets, though. I looked at one such place today that would be great as far as location with respect to work (avoids all the traffic) but it's very musty, has VERY small bedrooms, and the basement is just plain icky. It does have a very lovely fireplace and a small yard. The "den" has a small loft which is kinda cool, too. I may end up taking it just to have a place.

Oh, and the kitchen has a fridge, but it's a small "cupboard" type fridge, with no freezer. I must have a freezer and a microwave. I'll have to buy those things, I suppose.

It's all an adventure! Been too busy with stuff this week to take any pictures, though.

Melethia,
That leopard picture really is kick ass. It was one of my faves of challenge. Way to go!

By the way, does anyone else have a plummeting score in Perspective? I've gone from a 5.9 this morning to a 5.2! That's a big drop in a short time.

Not quite as big, but yep: 6.45 to 6.05.

I think the first 20 voters or so were all at the same party and were enjoying either far too many legal substances or perhaps a few of the illegal ones. Votes early in this challenge seemed really off the scale... I've dropped about 0.2 so far.

I agree. I didn't think my perspective shot was nearly as interesting as my postcard one, but I did think it was a high 5 or low 6, and that's where it's settling in now.

And oh-by-the-way, my self DQ was in Postcards. I'll post a version of it in my portfolio (but not the version with the grammatically challenged German, which is why I pulled it in the first place.) I'd like to re-edit it, as the one I pulled is a better crop (I think) than the one I created in the first place and will put in my portfolio. But I don't want to deal with the cloning again (I cloned out a sign). So the one that I did first will just have to do! (That'll teach me not to save the psd files when I'm working on something, huh?)

I expected about a 5.5 in Perspective, which is where is may (hopefully!) end up...but now it is down to 5.15! Nearly a whole point drop in one afternoon.

Loved the leopard I looked back and had gave you a 9 on it, I thought it would go to the top 5.

I know I just got here but I dont see changing anything. We'll pick it up again. Someone had suggested recruiting and I might know somebody.

Mine dropped here from a 7.5. It's still a better score than I've ever had so I'm cool with that. I think 2 very kind people went on and voted early last night.

My scores are up too. I still say it's Rate Inflation due to the new popup message encouraging comments on low ratings.

Has to be, I'm actually over a 5 now, but with three "this isn't so good" comments. LOL.

At least I went to bed happy and had a good night's sleep. The third vote on my Perspective shot was '9'. That's when I decided to turn in and enjoy it for as long as possible. The average is now at '5.6111', which is still good for me, but it's a slippery slope.
