Wait a minute .... we have to factor in the open challenges. The score is going to go up, I'm sure of that. With luck, the llamas will not go up much.
How are we doing in the open challenges? Mine's at 6.8.
I'm trying for a high score in the open challenges this week (Spots/Headwear). I didn't enter B/W, I was thinking of either of these two:
but I didn't think either was worth it, and then I was gone a lot yesterday and one thing led to another, and I missed the deadline :)

Mer Bleue is an excellent choice. But then, you got a bunch of good choices in Ottawa. How 'bout the giant spider ;-) |

I think I am going to have a hard time with the postcard challenge unless I go for a long drive. My home town is not postcard worthy this time of year. However I will look for an excuse to go someplace before the weekend. |

I've got the same problem with postcard, and the weather here is horrible. Its been raining for three days now, I don' teven remember what the sun and blue sky look like. On top of all that my B&W is getting slaughtered, its at a 4.9 right now. I'm also having a real hard time coming up with anything for spots and tops.

Postcards do not necessarily have to be a scenic or town thing. They can be all sorts of other stuff. The idea is that you're selling a concept for a place with the postcard, so you need a concept that fits a place (e.g., and this is a corny example, but "beavers" and "Canada"). Get the best image for the concept, get the best text to fit the concept, and there you have it.

Do you think that will work here? I have thought about this already and can't stop thinking that the highest scores will still go to the traditional Beach, Mountain and City Skyline shots. I have 4 major cities with in a 90 minute ride So I will probably at least try to make it to one of them over the next few days. If all else fails I do have a secondary plan much along the lines of your suggestion.
I just have to throw it up in the air and see where the wind takes it.
My B&W is holding steady around a 5.8
Reflection shot just dropped to 5.5

Chances are you're right that overall the better scores will go to the more "traditional" beach, mountain, city skyline postcard shots. On the other hand, a good not so traditional entry could (and should) beat out the many just so-so city/mountain/beach shots.
What I'm saying is, even though chances are the "traditional" postcard will do better, a mediocre traditional will be just that, another mediocre postcard. If you are unable to make an outstanding traditional postcard (because of location, weather, whatever), make one that's not traditional (location, weather, and so on should not be an issue) but outstanding. It's more fun that way anyway.

B&W 5.8
Spots 5.3
My Spot shot was a last second idea. I think it is a nice photo however it probably lacks the much needed WOW factor. Which I personally am growing tired of...
Congrats on the top 10 Ursula. |

Postcard - I have an idea if it works then expect a biggy but its damn hard and im not allowed to be in that place to take the photo i want (nothing illeagal) just it is a no access to public area from where i wish to get the shot of something else.. im crazy..
year - born 1962, man on the moon, maralyn monroe dies.. i was born..
perspective - could get interesting.
OK Team we went 1 down first round but we can pull it out the bag let's dig deep and hit them hard.. GO NIKON GO!

B&W 5.0
Headgear 4.4 at the moment
I wish people would comment as to why they don't like it. I'm really just sucking out this week.

wow my reflection shot scored in the 71% probably would have done better if it had not been for the jerks that keep giving me 1's and 2's I will take them when I deserve them but I am getting sick of it happening practically every challenge. DPC needs to put an end to it. |

I agree, they are killing me. The worst part is they don't comment on why they give a 1 or 2, they just do it.
