in a fit of early morning aimlessness, i did a chart of my percentages, just to prove tomyself my suckiness. ooo, yeah, i suck. maybe because i submit shots i like, rather than the ones i know would do well? yeah, that's it...

What do you other suckians see?
|
On my laptop there is definitely visible noise. The sky looks like black construction paper and the moon and clouds are also noisy. I see two spots of lens flare on the upper right, and what looks like possible lens flare near the main firework burst.
Have you tried Neat Image for cleaning up the noise? |

Something weird is going on...either that or the class I'm currently taking on lighting is actually doing some good? Could it be?

I'm not expecting this to hold, but needless to say these are far and away the best scores I've had. |

congrats, noraneko!!
I just want to say that team suck rocked long exposure. I gave you all 6's or higher on those great photos.
In B&W, I am ashamed to say I am entrenched in mediocrity:

Not for that, but after seeing the comments (and the nosie on my laptop) I downloaded the demo. Here's the shot after a neatimage (default settings for 20D profile)
As far as I can tell, it improves the general quality of the background noise .. ? |

Could be that that might be worth the 29$. It seems to be a pretty cool little program. |

Ouch! Someone just gave me a '1' on my reflections shot, and no comment. The shot may not be in the ribbon league, but it's definitely not a '1'. I think some people are just plain mean! |

Yeah. Some people use the full scale and like to vote at the bottom end of it. Hoepfully they get cancelled out by ten-givers. |

Neon 5.3048
Black & White 5.2766
I like both of these shots. While they are not ribbon worthy, I think these scores are a little low. Oh, well.
I will be going for the brown in spots. It is an accidental shot that met the challenge in a different way and I predict my lowest score ever. Maybe even in the 3's. Just couldn't stop myself from entering it! |

On a completely unrelated note I just heard the TV in the background doing an advert. The dialogue -
"What could this be?"
"This is wee".
Of course, that's refering to the Wii console, but it's unfortunate when you just hear it. |

I'd be delighted with each and every one of those. I'm way below all of 'em in those respective challenges! Actually have a shot at the brown in HDR. At a minimum, I should get a single digit percentage finishing place out of it.

I've had 2 good comments about my b&w.
I'm not even sure what HDR is - I guess I'll have to read about it a bit before voting. |

I think it's a miswritten acronym for Howard R Davies, a guiding light in the design team for Vincent motorcycles.

You're going to have to compete with me for that brown. I'm at 4.4 right now. |

There is good information in Photoshop CS2 Help. Also there is an article in Popular Photography How to Create HDR Images in CS2. |

For a little perspective - not as much as the infinite perspective vortex, but even so - I've just had four scores on the bounce under 5 and the one before them was disqualified. The next one to plop off the assembly line (reflection) is precariously over 4 by a couple of thousandths. Current entries in HDR and b&w are in the middle 4 range. The HDR could threaten to breach 5 at some point, but is unlikely to hold it.
My suck team philosophy has me explaining that it would be a travesty to make dpc candy out of my cordon bleu photos, but I'm wondering where sour grapes fit into that metaphor.
Just you wait.
Great to see the OOBIE and YAPPIE thangs. A useful relocation of the spotlight.
