So, when you do the consult and signing of the contract, I am sure you all bring a check list of shots that the bride and groom absolutely want. So, whats on your list? My list is fairly small, and I would like to expand it.

actually, i tell them to go to google and search "wedding photo checklist", pick one, modify it, and bring it on the wedding day...

worked just fine so far... especially if they give it to a wedding coordinator and not me.

the advice I've had from several wedding pros is never have the list included or attached to the contract. Don't guarantee to hit all the shots either.

Holy moly - that's an impressive list...

I don't believe I would ever dare being a wedding photographer in the US if that's the standard :)

Hey there, I just shoot and try to get everything. I let the BG know that it's impossible to get everything, but I try. Also, i do not provide a list, or even bring one. If a couple have a few specific shots they want, great. usually the shots they really want are thing like:

the bride with all her cousins,
 or
the bride and groom with their college friends

almost every couple I've ever worked with don't care about "the list" anyways. They want to have fun, and aren't really that concerned about "the dress over the chair" shot anyways.

They want photos of themselves, and their friends and families having a good time.

My list that I have now, it covers some of the shots listed there. I explain to the BG to mark off ONLY THE MUST HAVES. We cover most of the list anyways, but its nice to have something to look back onto to make sure you didnt miss anything. Mostly we just tell them that we are professionals, and our creative thinking and professional thinking will get all the shots they would possibly want.

Really, I just want to look at others lists, should I be able to catch something I don't have on mine that I think is something that should be included.

If I don't sign then on the spot, or mail them anything prior to meeting I send a 'suggested shot list' if found on some bridal website. It's to give them 'an idea' of the shots we take - at no point do I really want a written list as some brides can get real picky - "You missed Aunt Jane" and then they're pissed - or want a refund or something extra for nothing! If it's part of the contract then you may legally obligated to get Aunt Jane or what have you. If aunt jane is a no show or leaves early it's not your fault (so says my contract) but the bride may not see it that way.

this is good advice to follow.

the last wedding i did ended up with everything being behind schedule ( no chance to get preperation shots ), the weather being very uncooperative to the point that most of the folks involved in the wedding just wanted to get into the tent, and out of the cold wet wind - causing a mad rush to get the group photos.

prior to the wedding i asked that they give me a list of the people they positvely wanted shots of and thats it. nothing written in stone there either. the rest was left open for me and my assistant to figure out.

i would have hated to be at fault for for missing shots i commited to due to the loose planning of the entire event.

I don't do a check list - I have a conversation about a week or ten days before the date, preferably in person with both the bride and groom and perhaps the parents. We discuss who will be there, who the "main players" are (wedding party, parents, etc.) From who they talk about, I get a feel for who is the most important to them. I keep notes as we go along. A day or two later, I submit my ideas for formal photos to them, and invite them to add or subtract from that as much as they'd like.

Most of my clients aren't into formals, and prefer their photos of the important friends and family in a more candid style, but you never know until you really sit down and discuss what they want in their wedding photos. |
