Actually, all of the voices of those most directly involved, the military personnel on both (or however many) sides and the citizens in Iraq, go mostly unheard in the U.S.

Indeed. The bits and pieces I hear from individuals who are a part of it are quite different from anything I hear on TV.

There will be nasty feuding in Iraq til the end of time. It's a tough mess to grapple with and nobody wants to have all the life that's been lost add up to nothing. There were similar issues when trying to exit Viet Nam.

FWIW, I've heard many top Military personnel voice their opinion over the last few years. None too positive either.

Rumsfeld was an arrogant condescending prick. He's a damn smart guy that didn't come nearly close to thinking things through. Sadly we're bogged down until a sound exit plan (timeline) is drafted and hopefully that's what will now come of this.

Glad to see him go.

Kind of a waste of time to do much planning when you have no power to do anything about it. If the Democrats had been spending their time planning a specific exit strategy, they'd just be accused of ignoring their other governance responsibilities.

Ho freakin hum.

Lug a bunch of gear for 3 weeks to a foreign country where if your gear breaks you can't replace it and it's dusty. Then shoot under all lighting conditions and try to get a GOOD shot and you'll learn your equipment and what it can handle and what it takes to get a good image.

Also, you'll learn world affairs and foreign policy especially if the country you go to borders a country undergoing political turmoil. How's that for bring it back on topic? ;)

Exactly.

All of the campaign rhetoric is just that. There is no plan.

Sure there is a plan. We all get treated like mushrooms.
