I rather like my self portrait shot, and it will probably end up on my profile page when this is over. Too bad nobody else likes it! (Too bad nobody likes my other shots very much either!)

Looking forward to watching a different entry suck for a week. I thought my Free Study picture was a good shot; maybe tomorrow my fellow Team Suck allies can give me their opinions.

I don't really know what we are vying for on this team, but here are my current scores (I didn't enter long exposure). Do they help or hurt the Novices?

Someone commented on my landscape shot that "it isn't a landscape per se". Actually, I tried to find out what a landscape is "per se", and couldn't get a clear understanding. Since I'm a Novice it should be okay for me to ask -- what is a landscape?

Humm I looked at your portfoilo I think you have a good understanding of a landscape, good work too. Maybe the person leaving the comment doesn't know what a landscape "per se" is. Good luck CB

But you see, the challenge was for landscapes, not landscapes "per se" so I suppose the commenter was a bit confused.
noraneko isn't very fond of my Long Exposure (score for which was under 5 when I turned off scores) but I don't mind. It's one of those that's a tad on the "huh??" side. :-) Besides, the score you gave me will actually bring it up.
And Don, yes, wardrobe sucked, but all the cool stuff I might have been able to come up with is on a slow boat to Germany.
And finally - boring Neon shot or kinda nifty but gonna get killed reflection shot? I'm leaning toward Neon because of the smaller numbers...

I went with Neon because of the lower numbers. But I like the photograph so that it will probably be toast in the morning. |

I'm trying something new. I'm leaving scores completely turned off. Like, possibly forever. That way I don't need to know if a picture truly sucks according to DPC until it shows up on my profile page. By then it's just a statistic. Could be fun. :-) |

Current stats... and I just entered Reflections. Actually I entered reflections, then pulled it because I thought it was advanced editing, edited another picture and entered that in reflections and put my original entry into FreeStudy. Ha!

I'm in Neon and hoping for a top 150 finish. I have a really cool shot for reflections but am a'feard of all the many "pretty fall leaves reflected in placid lake" shots I'd be up against. Texas doesn't have much of a fall. I'll post a shot of "fall" in my portfolio later. It's not even really fall since I believe the tree isn't native, but it's what we have.
For those so inclined to go look (not posting the thumb - don't want to violate outtake rules, even though it's not an outtake, it's a DNE - did not enter challenge), I'll stick the not-entered reflection shot in my portfolio here in a sec. Hint - it's a cat, so it wouldn't have done well anyway. :-) |

Sheesh, if you really wanted to antagonize the voters, you'd need a small child holding a flower next to the cat.

All out of small children, but I could maybe rent one. And I'd need a butterfly, a sunset, and a water drop or two... |

I can lend you a child, but can't help you with the butterfly, sunset or waterdrop. LOL

LOL! I fear we'd suck there, too.
In all seriousness, I was telling my mom on the phone this evening that the neat thing about Team Suck is we probably don't really suck, we just have different tastes than DPC as a whole. I noticed this because I rather liked all the Wind shots that Mary posted (and thanks for doing that each time, by the way) from the Team Suck participants. |

Actually, I noticed that too. We are all just a bunch of photographically challenged individuals with odd tastes. It's not that we're bad, we all have people that love our photography. We just don't have a mass appeal. I'm getting to be OK with that.

I keep bouncing between wanting to have at least occasional mass appeal and focusing ont the people who vote my photos 7 and up. They do exist. :)
Anyway, I'm in reflections. It'll probably do poorly because it's not an eye candy shot; it actually carries a story and is a bit solemn. Not that there's anything wrong with eye candy; my faves folder is full of it. But I'm still more interested in trying things other than the typical.

We could set up a barter system here. I have plenty of butterflies, orchids (did you forget orchids), sunsets and a few small children, but no water drops or cats. I don't have any horses either. |

I have a reflection shot that is goint to bomb big time! I'm on an under-4 streak and it's almost as fun as my very brief near-6 streak.

Is there an actual reflection or is it implied? :-)

I'm looking forward to seeing which image is yours. Mine is not doing so well, yet it lacks any of the forbidden DPC items (butterfly, child, water drop, flower macro, etc)

My free study came up sub-five in the bottom 12% percentile. That's a good level on consistent sucking.
I was surprised, because someone said it looked overexposed, and I took great pains to ensure that this shot looked perfect on my LCD. In fact, it's two raw negatives from the same shot combined at different exposure values, one for most of the shot and another for the house in the background and some of the wall.
On my main PC, the front of the wall is pretty dark green, the leaves are pretty dark green, and only the back part of the wall (beyond the two tree trunks) is approaching lighter limey green colours.
Then I viewed this shot on my uncalibrated laptop yesterday and it did look over-exposed.
So, team-suckians, does this photo look bright, or moodily dark with a glint of light in a few places (eg dark tree trunks with splashes of light on them).
So difficult to explain colours in terms of lightness :/ |
