I really like this photograph but nothing really stands out and grabs me about it, yes the rock colours are pretty and the sky looks furious but I feel I am missing something.
Its a shame the water was very still as otherwise I feel the water moving around and creating a hazy effect would of looked ok!
Any ideas what I'm missing? |

Alex, that's a great shot! However some PP is missing:
It's a quite flat image, a bit too dark with only few highlights. The clouds are too dark, details get lost. Colors could benefit from a boost.
Ok, I did some PP, nothing special. Just a quick and dirty job:
- bring out details in the shadows via highligh/shadow
- histogram adjustment via levels
- constrast enhancement with curves
- selective color
- saturation boost
- little dodge&burn to lighten/darken certain areas
- neat image
- USM
Does that come closer to what you want it to look like?
edit: forgot 2 PP steps :)

Crop the top and bottom a bit. I dont know exacly how you' like it best, but go into photoshop, go Filter, Render, Lighting Effects, and play arond until you find what you were going for.
PS. For a shot like this you have to pick an emphasis, whether it be a random rock, a vertical line, or even a random point.

It looks like it was shot around about eye level or fully extended tripod level ? Maybe if you'd gotten down closer to the foreground rocks and made them more of a dramatic lead in element it might help ?
The other thing is maybe hanging out there longer for that chance break in the clouds/ ray of light that would lift it beyond. Tasmania is beautiful, but I remember a lot of weather like this - shouldn't be too hard to find opportunities again :)
