I made what I think is my first ever request for DQ in one of the challenges this week, about 36 hours ago. I was wondering about the process. I have not heard back from the Admins, and the image is still there and without an Admin's Note saying it is legal.

The process:- Does it usually take a couple of days? In such cases, will there always be either a DQ or an Admin's sign? Will I be informed of what happened? If I am wrong with my complaint will I have to sit in the corner for a week with a dunce's cap on?

I have never had the admins tell if it was or was not.. I have seen it at the end of the Challenge where the pic remains but that it has information under the picture saying whether it was verified or DQed

if it was dq'd you wouldn't see it anymore in voting

Jak,

When a DQ requests come in it is reviewed by the moderators and admins. If there is a question as to legality of editing, we will in many cases request an unaltered original and the editing steps from the photographer. Once we receive a reply, we use the information provided to make a determination. Very often, this takes a couple days.

The moderators vote on the dq requests... if there is a majority of dq votes from moderators, the image is then validated or disqualified...

Thanks, but some of my questions remain unanswered.

In all cases where a DQ request is made, will there be either a DQ or an Admin's note? (in other words, if a DQ suggestion is not accepted, will an Admin note always be posted?)

If the answer to the above is No (i.e., a DQ request can be turned down without an Admin note being put on the image), how do I find out the disposition of the DQ request?

Thanks

What happens when an entry is disqualified? Does the picture get posted with a big fat red "X" over it or something like that? (Just kidding). Can you continue entering challenges, or are you, as a person, disqualified, and your name stained so much so that you'll have to continue your miserable existence in an alternate universe?

And, most importantly, how does the person whose picture got a request for DQ know what's going on?

No, you aren't disqualified as a person, nor is your name stained. Most disqualifications are through innocent mistakes and some people who have been disqualified in the past have gone on to do really well here.

LOL!
From the perspective of the possible DQ-ee, (I'm speaking hypothetically, of course ;^) you'd get a message like this...

Your image, `Transported in Time & Place: Brachiosaur Skeleton, O'Hare Intl.`, has been recommended for diqualification. Please send us your original file (with EXIF) and the steps you used to create your submitted version. If we do not hear back from you within 48 hours, we will go forward with the disqualification.

Thanks,
DPChallenge

You'd respond with a copy of your original image and the steps required to get to the final product. If you're DQ'd you'd get a message stating so, if not, you would know because your image would remain in the voting.

Ah, it's good to know this is something one can laugh about.

BTW, does anyone know where one can find a list of what all these things like "LOL" mean? There's so many!

So, the image I queried has been cleared -- and for that I am very glad. However, it does not have an Admin Note beside it, even though the possibility of rule breaking on the image appears obvious (even though it is not).

My question is therefore: what criteria other than an unsuccessful DQ challenge, is needed to cause an image to receive an Admin Note?

An admin note usually appears at the request of the photographer. If there are more than one request for DQ on a photo, I think they generally put an admin note on it after verification for the photographer's benefit.

GeneralE, you're a veritable fountain of knowledge. Thanks!

Thanks to Kirbic too, I didn't immediately see your post further down.

Following the thought of this thread, do lots of photos get DQ requests? It would be a lot of work to sort through that!

There are about 10 or so per challenge normally. Usually, however, they are for border issues (which are no longer illegal, so ignored) or for selective colour desaturation issues, which can be done legally, and most of the time are not spot edited, as the person requesting the DQ thought.

Thank you, but really it's that I was lucky enough to have parents who believed knowing how to learn something was more important than memorizing a lot of stuff. I ran a search for the term "internet shorthand" and that link was about the fourth result on the page...

Yeah, touche, but having been married a long time and having 5 kids I've leaned that if I can get someone else to do it for me, that's the way to go :)

No argument there!
