I'm in a hotel in San Antonio, TX bored out of my skull. So I started taking pics out of my hotel room window.

Try getting some pictures for the neon sign challenge.

is your Sigma 500mm gives you enough range to shoot some good candids from your window?

I was always told San Antonio was a great, fun city. I've lived in TX for 14 years and I've never been, lol! *she spins around to make sure she's not wearing a "kick me" sign*

I was in the 1989 Miss Texas USA pageant in San Antonio. It was a whole lot of fun!! The riverwalk has a zillion photo ops.

Not only that, you never know what can happen on the riverwalk. I was there with the family once and a wedding was taking place. My family and I got invited to be part of the party, just for walking by and taking some interest in watching.

I arrived yesterday late so I was "room bound" today should provide for some adventure. If I can sneak out of my conference early. LOL.

Darn... and I didn't bring my sigma 500mm. :)

Ugh, hotels & conferences. I've got a couple on my schedule. I have a terrible time trying to get to sleep without my wife next to me, and I miss my kids.

What do you folks do to get through long conferences?

If you have a car and get a chance to get away, the missions are a good place to visit. San Juan Capistrano is the most photogenic, but I'm quite fond of Espada, too.

I am out early (Don't tell anyone), I do not have a car (government job didn't allow for me to rent a car... lol) So I am on foot. Packin' up my gear for an adventure as I type. Yes, I am that talented. LOL.

Darn, I didn't notice the neon sign challenge. I will have to be on the look out.

Thanks for the heads up!

With my job, I travel about 80% of the time. I live in California, but commute weekly to various places, for weeks at a time. Currently, I'm in Chicago (actually, in Schaumburg, IL). I commute back and forth between California and here weekly, and will be for a few more weeks.

Anyway, throughout my travels, I always bring my camera. I try to get out in the morning before work (although that is rare--I'm not a morning person). When in daylight saving time, I like to get out after work and drive my rental car around to specific sites, or sometimes even randomly. When it gets dark early, then I try to get out during lunch and shoot. The bad thing about lunchtime shooting is that it may be too bright and sunny out.
