I got some shots I am really happy with the other day. I've been in a bit of a photography rut and I found the simplicity of these shots very refreshing. Amazing what mother nature can do to a scene. I really liked the shots right out of the camera and I imagine them displayed about 20 feet wide in a gallery somewhere (this will never happen but I can dream). Then I started editing them...
and even though I like the edited versions I feel that they lost the inheritent naturalness and joy of discovery that the originals had. I would like your opion on this. Here is one of the shots:
Thanks!
Oh and feel free to look through my NEW gallery. The day really helped me get back on my feet and shoot a lot of stuff I am fairly pleased with.

the unedited photo is right on the edge of being too vague. your edited version fixes that, but I agree that it loses something. maybe just a slight contrast tweak on the original?

The real day was actually that vague. :) I could barely even see the geese! |

The edited version has a bit more contrast which lets you see things a bit clearer. But the unedited has a nice misty, foggy feel about it that I like. Unedited.

Ooops - read the title wrong - it's the edited (B&W) version I prefer!

The edited version is much more pleasing to me, both because of the B/W and the boosted contrast.

I like the unedited... as you were saying you can imagine it in a gallary. I feel as if my feet are getting wet. It is a real life capture in a very somber way! Great job.

I prefer the unedited version, I like its softness and mysterious appearance.

as a print you have more control over it than online, with the variances from one monitor to another, so it would be fine. |

Unedited by a country mile. I can definitely see this as a HUGE print.

7 to 3 for unedited. I guess that's the winner!
(Looks like I should have saved one of these other shots for the free study...the one I entered isn't doing nearly as well as I had hoped) |
