I propose that we set up a buddy list of sorts. Give each paying member a buddy list option where you can add people that you routinely interact with. On the homepage below the image search on the left hand side, the name of each of your buddies who is currently on line could be displayed.
I can't tell you how many times I've searched for the same peoples profiles to see if they are online. The "Who's Online" feature is good but you have to click and search to find the people you're looking for. It would be nice to have this displayed on the home page once you are logged in as a convenience to the community AND it would be an additional benefit to those choosing to becoming paying members.

Or how about a DPC Messenger program, like Yahoo Messenger or AIM? :-)

Maybe BOTH...or is that too crazy?

The buddy's list seems easier to be implemented, so depending on how well it will be accepted, go with the next... |

Well I know this has been stated before but hat about just having messages that would be held on site that way no matter where you are on the site when you got a message from someone it would turn red or something letting you know you have something new to read. When you sign on for the first time in a day you might have several. Sometimes I go a while without checking my e-mail, but if I knew I had something obviously I would read it. I know this is done on most all other community based sites...to hard to make it work here?

I'm in favor of a buddy list, but only if we have the option of being 'invisible' |

What you mean?
1. You being invisible so no one can have your id on their list
2. You are in someone's list, but the list doens't show you are logged on.
3. Your list is invisible to others, i.e. private. |

I don't think it makes much sense, once anyone can click on your id and the profile page will tell otherwise. |

yeah, that problem needs to get fixed as well. I've never understood why we are forced to advertise that we are on the site at any given time. Giving the user options in regards to visibility is always the right way to go. |

There already is a "who's online" in the community tab above. |

it's a suggestion to make that feature more dynamic by allowing a more personalized buddy list. yes, we have ways to see who's online, but why not make it better? at least, that's what I assume the reasoning is behind the suggestion *shrug* |

Langdon saw this thread (or one very similar to it) and has been playing with somethings. Not promising anything, just letting you know that he did *see* it. |

I totally agree with this, and I've always been against the "user last logged in" thing as well.
Having actually been the victim of the "...but, I saw you were logged in to DPC, so I know you were on-line...why didn't you respond to my whatever..." I can assure you it's rather creepy. Because of that, I just can't support any feature that would make it easier for a cyber-stalker to track people.
Suggestion: if you have a pal on DPC that you'd like to interact with, ask them for their IM info and interact away.
For what reasonable purpose is it necessary to "know" that someone else is on-line?
