I'd like some c&c on these shots. I never know how much is too much editing, or not enough for that matter. What looks good to my eye one day may be different the next. Any advice??

The poses look good but the images seem to be fairly flat.
give em a little pop... The first one the left side of her face is on the edge of blown.
Play with your levels a bit to give them more depth

Teeth are too bright (Blown out) on the first, though the second isn't too bad.
I feel that the pure black background is a little off putting. Looks a bit like you have cut them out of another photo an pasted them into a new blank image. I personally LOVE B&W portraits, though quite like there to be some background to them to make them look more natural and not obviously "Studio" shot. |

Is there something wrong with "studio" shot ???

I think what pix-al is trying to say is the same thing I thought when I looked at them. The lighting is obviously from being shot outdoors, and then you blacked out the background. You can tell around the hair of the girls. Also, the lighting just doesn't match the background. If this is the look you're going for though, you could always just set up a black sheet backdrop next to a window for natural lighting. |

Not if you like that kind of thing...
I'm not a big fan of the typical purposely posed studio shots. I prefer natural candid portraits.

Thanks for your comments guys. The shots were taken out doors as the sun was setting with a black backdrop behind them. I really like contrasty shots but am a little unsure how to achieve them without blowing the highlights. |
