Well, another challenge goes by, another chance for my votes to totally disagree with the general masses in all but a few cases.
So here's a thread for those faceless shots that you expected to do better -
Only a little underrated, I had it in 1st place.
Great, out of the box, shot, came in 50th.
What great colour, and a thematic shot that made only 27th
Expertly met the challenge, but only 33rd.
Maybe fell victim to selective desat haters at 76th.
Full on energy, but only 77th place.
And lastly, what really surprised me -
I thought this hands-down for a top then finish, inexplicably 129th. |

The truth of the matter is that challenge produced quite a lovely collection of images. It is unusual for me to go past the top 20. This challenge did produce some unusual gems. We all know that nudes outside nude challenges do not float to the very top. DPC voters hesitate to reward these images. The same applies to artistic interpretations which create images with impressionistic and abstract touches. Again, the voters prefer to see these type images in special challenges. To a degree these limitations exist because that is the current collective nature of the bulk of the voters. Low key images also get lost because there is a desire for in your face lighting. Another general dislike are the images that are artistically pushed to a graphical representation.
This is sad but that's how it is. This is why all of you who appreciate this kind of work should always make it a point to vote on all challenges because these gems are usually present and deserve our support. |

I didn't vote the whole challenge, but this one got my top vote of the ones I did vote on. And it finished only 59th?

Thank you very much Pug-H as I always appriciate any vote, but especially top ones, like yours.....
I had a real blast with this one, but I not sure Peter, my husband did. It just amazes me, what he will let me do to him.....

I think what dragged this pic down was the post processing. Its kinda purple and people like good skin tones.
Just my opinion :) |

totally agree that this was an awesome photo, that was underrated. However I expected it wouldn't go over well with voters. Love the artistic work, and the vision here. Hell, I even thought the execution was dead on. |

Dude, you reached a Hole Nuther Level with this shot. As far as I'm concerned it's a Personal Best for you. Now, stop posting your own pictures to underrated threads, ya fricking egotist! ;)
I have so many photos that I loved in this competition... even two of the ribbon winners got 8s from me! :) |

I loved this challenge. I think I found it even more fascinating than the No Subject challenge. In both cases, the challenge directly addressed a flaw in dpc aesthetics. I loved watching the DPC idols struggle with the notion of not showing a face. In some cases, they rose to the occassion, finding the psychology of their subject in a way they never do when they can just show a pretty face. In other cases, they showed remarkable resourcefulness at maintaining the status quo, finding another way to rob their subject of mind & soul and just make him/her an object of prettiness. A truly fascinating spectacle.

This was my winner
...and finishing 18 is of course very good - but I had expected a ribbon here.
