I have got an opportunity to display 2 pictures in a photo exhibit. The show is themed 'Nature!'

Concern : I selected these 2 pictures for the show, I am not sure if they represent my best work - any comments or suggestions will help!

If you don't like these shots I will appreciate if you can suggest something from my portfolio //www.flickr.com/photos/vikas-garg/ - theme is 'Nature' (anything natural)

Question : 1) Size of the prints? I am not sure about the size I should get them printed and how should I frame it. I was thinking 16"x20" prints with a black matted frame!
2) I am also allowed to sell them. What will be the right price for say the above size?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

I've matted and framed a couple of pictures and my opinion is that bigger is better. Also, as for the color to use I would suggest taking it to the matte shop and laying the picture down with the different colors. A combination will stick out... as for price just remember to at least recoup the matte cost. I know the last picture I did for my wife cost $200+ to matte.

p.s. Both these are fine if you can only submit two. Although some of your personal shots are nice.

1) - 16 X 20 is a good print size for a photo gallery display
2) - Price depends on the quality of the print and if you want a sale. Price low for first showings, probably around 4 times the framing costs.

Always select pictures that fit the display venue, not necessarily your "best" works. Galleries generally have a certain look and feel they want to maintain. You'll want to know what that is. Some might want you to frame prints in a particular way. You will want to know that to and act accordingly. Framing can be an expensive undertaking.

Don't have high expectations for making sales at gallery showings. Most times you will not sell much and the gallery often takes a large cut.

The central theme to nature photography generally depicts one or more living organisms within their natural habitat much moreso than depictions of artistic expression. If they strictly want traditional nature shots then your tree selection pushes the limit.

People and anything manmade is generally taboo.

I like "Spreading Out" and would recommend it over the green photo.

If you're looking for attention, then go bigger. If you're more interested in getting sales, you might go smaller so that it's more likely to fit in someone's budget and on their wall.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

@Steve :
This photo exhibit is in a church by local photographers from the 'Cayuga Nature Photographers' club.
Its not a gallery so its upon me to decide on the type of frames/frame sizes and print size.

They want anything natural, as long as its from around Finger lakes region and has nothing man-made!

Just came back from a local framing store and getting the pictures custom framed can get real expensive (had no idea).
So I went to the local arts and craft store. They have 16x20 mattes with 11X14 opening as the biggest size for $4 and a decent 16x20 frame for $11.
IS that too small??

They have bigger frames but no mattes, somehow I feel pictures would look better with matte than without! (??)

@Kelsey : Thanks for the suggestion, will consider putting 'spreading out' - I like that one myself!

What I consider to be my best photos are rarely what the jurors choose and often award ribbons to. So I wouldn't worry too much about putting your "best" prints forward. Pick the two you like best.

As far as size, 16x20 is nice, but be sure of the gallery's space restrictions. Most of the time I've been limited to a maximum frame size of 20" and choose to display nicely framed 8x10s.
