There is certainly a wide variety images in this challenge. I voted something into every level:

I'd hoped more for this shot but realise the reason why its not scoring as high as I thought it would - its not a particularly good shot lol. That said, 5.6 isn't bad, the shot is more important to me than viewers I guess (thanks for the 4 comments, you are all spot on :)

You will find that is not true. Your average score given is about 7. Mine is only 5.8.
The reason for the difference is that for a long time I voted how I thought the group would vote an image. I don't do that anymore. Obviously, I still vote the whole scale but feel the average DPC submission should be a 7. A '7' is equivalent to a 'C' grade on an academic scale and that seems appropriate.
DPCers in general rate the average image below the mathematical mean of 5.5. I've come to feel that is incompatible with the quality of submissions, but that is just my personal view. Whatever voting strategy people decide on, by definition, is correct. Mine is no better or worse than anyone else's.

Today's Analysis
Gotta report quick before it drops. The tease is on. Score is edging up close to 7 again. Weekend voters were very generous. Been a long time since I had a score that high this late in voting.
I voted on all the entries. After finishing I like to pull up my own submission and evaluate it like any other. Mine is competetive, probably top 10, but a tad below ribbon level. I see at least 5 pure high contrast images of higher technical quality than mine which nail the challenge topic better given the impact they add to their compositions. I, of course, would have no problem if voters felt differently and voted mine higher. LOL!
There are also a number of other better ones that are not quite "pure" high contrast. I processed mine for high contrast and it works OK, but it is better suited for another style. I doubt that will be noticed much, though.

I didn't specifically mean you vote higher than I do overall, I just meant you voted higher than I did in this particular challenge. I didn't give any 10's, but a few 9's. I already wrote my thesis on my voting habits in the thread of  posthumous called "Am I being too nice." I'm done studying that part of DPC, but I find your statistical analysis quite revealing and informative. Thank you for sharing the knowledge of your experience! :-)
