I've been trying to get rid of all the background bokeh-mess out of this picture unsuccesfully for a couple of days now. I know a lot in photoshop...but not as much as I would like. So if someone could help me with this it would be great.

I want just the girls face and a blank background in the picture. If anyone can attain this and explain how they did in steps that would be aaaawwweeesome and I might send you something free in the mail.

Thanks

Caleb

the only way I know how is to select the background and cut it out but without alot of work i would lose all of her loose hairs.

It might actually be a good thing if all her stray hairs dissappeared....disappeared....dissapeared....disapeared.

Mask out the background by hand, will be a lot of work though.

Is the color version available? The different color channels give emphasis to different parts of the image, so what is hard to seperate on the composite may not be on one of the channels.

Also, when you say you just want her face, do you mean you don't care about the hair? If so, an oval selection would take care of just seperating her face. Probably not what your after though.

Not sure how to do this the right way...thats why I'm asking for someone to show me.

Since it will be a lot of work...I'll give whoever does it something awesome in the mail. I have a couple extra photog things laying around I can send your way.

I did this quick so its not perfect. I used the pen tool and made a path around the girl, saved the path, selected background layer, made selection of the path, inverted the selection with a 1 px feather, made sure my background color was white and hit the delete key. Like Elvis said with that method I could not save the hair on her neck but she would want that gone anyway. LOL I did some minor clean up as I cheated on the left side of her face cuz the hair was on a light part of the background. Total time 5 min.

I just did a quick cut out using the extract filter and the history brush. Worked quite well in under 5 minutes

What colour do you want behind her?

Loaded the image into PS, Duplicated background, hid the background layer, used lasso tool to draw roughly around head and added a layer mask to the duplicated layer.Used a brush about size 20 with a slightly soft edge and painted in black on the mask. Added a new layer below the 'head' layer and filled with red, so that I could see the areas where additional attention was required. A bit rough around the edges, more time expended would mean better finished product.

I wasn't trying to be mean. I was acutally complimenting him.

But just incase I came across as an evil person. Thanks you all for your time...I really really appreciate it. This is by far the most caring and helpful website I've ever had the privilege of being involved with....and I'm not just saying that either.
