OK, I have a shot I love and I've been butchering it in Photoshop trying to get it to what I want. What do I want? I'm not sure, but I'll know it when I see it.
Here's the shot... It says unedited, but I did use sharpen on it after resizing.
Here's my two try's so far...
So, what would you do?

I like the shot - I think the black and white version is more "stylish", I think that's the word I'm looking for. I prefer your color edit though because color is one of the things that makes leopards (it is a leopard, right?) stunning. What I would do, and now this is just me, would be get rid of the border or maybe make it a different color, one not to stark. I'd also clone out the grass on the bottom, I don't think it serves much purpose. I like the softness. One more thing I noticed and this is really picky - on the left side of the fence at around the middle of the shot are 4 lines coming out from below the nails, they're distracting to me. but again, just my opinion |

It's actually an African Cheetah. I didn't even notice those lines until you mentioned them. I love the the color of the eyes in the unedited, but I like the black and white version. The soft version screws up the eyes, but I also like that look. I'm not good enough to clone out the grass without screwing it up though.

There seems to be a bright line through the center of the frame that looks blown in the edits while making the face look under exposed,
Maybe cropping so the bright band is running along the bottom of the image or gone completly or masking that part and balancing the shot exposure from top to bottom. |

At first I liked the texture of the wooden boards but it's kinda all over the place in tones. Quite annoying. Anyways I had a play around with it.
Darker version
More muted version

I cloned the lighter parts of the wood with the darker boards then used multiple curve adjustments with masks to get the background darker and the cheetah lighter. Gaussian blur layer faded and reduced opacity. Slight sharpen. Slight burn on the edges.
