Well Marvik, you may want to check my post in the "challenge results" forum; I was wondering why there's such a diifference between the "commenters" score (about 8) and the "normal" scores (about 5, causing me to end way down the results list).

Now I know what has caused that phenomenon: at least one person openly admits to have rated my shot with a score of "1" ...because it is a PET shot. By her rationelle, pet shots aren't allowed in any contest on dpchallenge, end of story ...unless the challenge is really named "pets" I guess.

Her behavior would explain the strange scores I'm getting; there's bound to be more people who reason the same way as her...

Ciao,

J.

I saw that and even commented on it there and I am going to do the same here....I found that persons post to be one of those that has no reasoning behind how they vote. The vote down any type of cliche and that is so sad that people can't take the time to look at a photo and vote it on technical merit as well as its appeal to them.

When I see stuff like that I wish the next challenge could be pets for that very reason, that and the fact I got a momma kitty with 3 kittens that are only a week old, imagine the cuteness of that photo! And with mothers day only a week away she could make for a wonderful salute to any mother by showing her unconditional love for her babies.

That same person also complained about child photography, I say lets have a child photography contest. For those who don't have kids you could still do you photo by borrowing the "Dennis the Menance" of the neighborhood.

That person also complained about studio shots, hey I'm not the best at doing studio photography but I say lets do a studio challenge. Also macros were complained about hehehe I think we just did macros but hey I'm willing to do them again just for the sake of it. And flowers, oh yes how many people don't like the floral photos?

Just think we could make our own DPChallenge Pet Calender for next year just by showing off some of the cute pets we have and for those who don't have a pet, there is always the pet rock and also the squirrels or ducks at the park that you feed and have a personal relationship with cause they depend on you for food.

i dont think "that person" has anything against those subjects per se, OSS, I just think that they're opposed to them when they don't meet the challenge.

Just my impression :)

I take delight in photographing my two cats. I love them so much, and they are good subjects. In fact just last night I was hysterical laughing over one of my cats, Suma, watching tv.
For the "Fauna" challenge I deliberately avoided submitting pics of them because I didn't think it would meet the challenge. I appreciate the opportunity to be challenged on this site, rather than stay in my personal comfort zone. It would be far too easy for me to photograph them.
I was challenged with the "Fauna" challenge, and I found a wild bird to photograph. It didn't do as well as I'd hoped. Technically it was a tougher subject than a domestic pet, and also of some zoo shots, which I also love doing, but I must accept the vote of the people.
The important thing to me is to be challenged, and do the best I can do. If I'm happy with an image, and some people like it, that is great. I've learned to get past the scores as an "end all." I relish comments though!

Jochen and Anna,
You obviously need to read what I posted.
Anna, I did not COMPLAIN about child shots, studio shots, or flower shots. Quote: "You will see that every week, no matter what the challenge, there will be a pet, child, or flower picture. It always happens and there is nothing wrong with it. Everyone sees these things and interprets them in a different manner. Some people don't have access to certain things available for a challenge, but they like to submit. I hate the challenges that I cannot relate it to a natural occurring thing or event (ie: studio shots), other people are on the other end of the spectrum. I just don't submit, then." Just to straighten that out. The last 2 sentences of that quote refer to ME not liking to do studio shots, if that was not clear.
Jochen...I think I explained it very well to you. And if you had read it and not been so defensive about me giving you the truth, you would understand. My vote is 1/300th of your score. You took a better than average picture of an average thing (cliche or not) and to some people, they do not believe you met the challenge. 300+ people averaged out to you having a 5. A lot of people would kill to average over 5.
Go to the next challenge and try again. And I would love to see pets done! Or just kids! I have em myself, if you did not notice my entry in the multi-composition challenge.
I never posted this or the other in any way to piss you or anyone in particular off. I'm just honest and to the point. Sorry.
Good Luck

tracy

I think we could do a challenge on domestic animals. Most ppl didn't shoot those for the fauna challenge anyway.

If there is nothing wrong with it then why did you score such shots an automatic 1?
