Ok I'm a confused Elements newbie...

When I use "Save for Web" I'm losing my EXIF info.

If I do a manual "Save As" JPEG and adjust the quality levels to reduce the file size I don't loose the info. But doing it manually is a pain to zero in on a file size of 150K

Any thought about what I'm doing wrong?

if you're saving for DPC, you don't need exif anyways. It takes up space, and the servers will strip it so no one knows who made the pic.

Thanks Wavelength...

So as long as I have the info on my original I'm all Set?

You must save your original unaltered file with the EXIF info in case there is a question about your entry.

Follow these instructions: Using photoshop to prepare photos tutorial and you will be fine.

This means you will have at least 2 files for each challenge entry - the original which you maintain if you are asked for it and a copy that you submit for the challenge.

Thanks maryba. I've been saving my original unaltered with the exif. I guess my misunderstanding was that the processed submission needed it too.

That makes my problem moot!

Probably also means that Elements is doing axactly what it's supposed too. duhh.

sorry, I forget basic workflow tips in these things, thanks, Mary.

Yes, NEVER save over the original. BTW- Do not use windows power toys or Picture/fax viewer to rotate your files, and ACDSee also does funky things with your exif when you use it to acquire images from your camera that can get you a DQ too.

I've been pretty careful to not do anything to the original. I usually shoot in RAW and move the file directly from the camera to a directory of submission "originals" and then I save my PP submission files in a seperate space.

Thanks again!
