I posted this photo on another forum, and everybody says it's too dark...
Really? what do you guys think?

I think its too dark, Hann. I know what I'm looking at, but if I didn't know you were in aviation goggles I wouldn't guess it.

but do you really need to know what's on my head to see what it is? hmm I don't think so...
if the goggles weren't there, just me and my hair, would it be too dark too, or would it be fine?
just some questions ;)

I think it would be fine then. There is enough detail on the lips and shoulder to tell the viewer that its a person, its only the goggles that confuse me, I guess because its not what I 'expect' to see.

expect the unexpected ;) I like the unexpected. gives it a bit more "vibe" or something like that. if I didn't use the goggles, well, it would just be me with backlighting. now I added something, and the fact that it's confusing, might be a good thing.
thanks for the comment. maybe I need to find a pilot-uniform or something like that ;)

It depends on what effect you're going for. If it's supposed to obvious that he's wearing aviation goggles, then yes, too dark. Otherwise, I don't see anything wrong with it.

no, it didn't have to be obvious, I think when I wanted it to be obvious, I'd better use light from the front ;)
thanks for your comment.

i'd say a tiny bit too dark for me but it all comes down to what "you" want to present. who cares if others think its dark if that what you want? it's still cool. |

Works for me - I can see lips, nose, cheek, sholder, forehead and I can see it's non-scuba goggles of some type. There is a big piece of black in the left top/bottom corners but it does not look wrong to me. |

I actually think it is a very good low key image. I don't have any issues with it. :-)

I like it too. Sweet low key image, and I think it works really well. The only question that came my mind is why are is shoulders bear if the subject is flying high, and in aviation goggles

as i said on my comment, it's just a teeny tiny bit too dark, just on the goggles, nowhere else. just a hint of tone on the goggles is all you need. not much more at all. just a hint to give some clue as to what the goggles are. otherwise the eye gets lost in the googles, and doesn't reach the lips and chin.

Too dark. At first I couldn't make out what the goggles were, then I wondered why they were being worn on the side of the head. |

It's not because it's too dark, but because you haven't shown enough of the goggles that people are confused by it. The lighting is just fine - I'd even say good - but most folks can't work out what that stuff is on the face.

I can see where if someone's monitor is not adjusted properly where it would appear too dark. I like the pic as is (on my monitor). I don't need to know what you have on your head (although I can see what it is clearly). I like the mystique presented by the photo. Why so dark with the glass on? What is she doing? Is this a crime scene? Is there something nefarious going on?
I like the photo as is and love the composition. It brings so many questions to the mind in so many directions that to simply comment on its brightness/darkness seems to me to be somewhat simplistic and kind of like 'first impressionistic' and not seeing the value of what is on front of you. Just a point of view...
Left same as comment on photo...
