Has anyone taken any classes from the betterphoto.com website and if so what did you think of them? Were they informative? I am considering taking the digital camera one.

I did the 'Learning to See Creatively' course earlier this year and found it really fantastic. I got a ton of information from doing the course and really feel I improved a lot. I did learn some things that I haven't seen written down before and I've read a whole lot of photography books.

I was a bit surprised at how short the critiques are and also how annoyingly positive they always are (I prefer more critical feedback)

The real issue is though that you learn as much as you are willing to learn from them. Each week you only have to submit 3 pictures, so you could do almost nothing and learn almost nothing. If you really work at the assignments and read the comments on all the other student's work it is a great experience. Depends on how much you want to put in to it.

You can see most of the exercises I did for the class here:

Are there any other online courses that someone can recommend?

Of varying degrees of happiness with these. Short courses are free, but no feedback. A few of the others are a bit more detailed. These are a bit different than betterphoto, but worldwidelearn.com has a HUGE list of 'photo courses' of differing values.

I am currently doing the "Understanding Exposure" course with BetterPhoto and I have to say it is really my money's worth. I'm into my 4th week now and have learnt so much which I wouldn't have been able to do on my own. I can only say go for it! You'll learn a lot and benifit from it for sure!

I'm currently in my 4th course at BetterPhoto, I've learned sooo much there! I would recommend their classes to anyone! :)
