Anyone know where I can purchase black velvet online in widths of 90" or better for a decent price?

Are you sure you want velvet? Why not just black felt. Any fabric store will sell it. Widths will be more like a yard though... |

Velvet in that width is going to be difficult to find I think, and, if real velvet, quite expensive. Even synthetic velvets are expensive, and I don't know if they are made (commonly) so wide - I doubt it.
Some fabric stores have velvets (both imitation and real) in the "fancy fabrics" section. Sometimes they have velvet like materials in the upholstery section. But again, I doubt either would be 90" wide.
For smaller pieces of velvet, I have found used clothing made of velvet at a Salvation Army, cut them up, and ended up with a pretty good chuck of nice velvet. The best one I found was a maternity dress, lots of fabric there in the skirt area. But often items made of velvet are very cut up, as it is used for fitted clothing or for accents. |

I'm not sure the black felt will have the light loss characteristics of velvet. Anyone know? I want really black backgrounds without having to push the levels down on the shadows.

I would stick with the velvet then not the felt. Have had good luck with it. Tried a white felt like material, didn't work out for me. |

That's what I'm thinking. I want this for full-body portraits and nudes, so fabric texture shouldn't be an issue. I just want it to go black easily.

DOnt get stretch velvet - unless you want a very drapey look. It is made to cling to the body and hang in folds.
