Many of you probably recognize Malia from some of my challenge entries. My wife and I have recently decided to adopt her a little sister. We've just started the paperwork but expect to be going back to China to bring Jamie home in 16 to 20 months :)

Some things can't be contained :) Just needed to share that :)

I can't believe that you have to wait 16-20 months! Beurocracy stinks :p
You must be so excited, worth the wait for sure.

Best of luck with your growing family!

Has anyone told the international adoption agencies it only takes 9 months to have a baby so it shouldn't take almost 2 years to adopt?

The majority of the wait is for the US to assure that we are a stable loving home and not cannibals looking for a snack. It may seem like a long process, but I think it's a good idea for them to be as careful as possible.

When we first contacted our agency (Holt) to adopt Malia, they told us in no uncertain terms that we were NOT their customers... We are their PRODUCT... Their customer is a child waiting for a good home... We like that philosophy and accept the wait :)

Thanks all :)

That's cool, as long as you can rest assured that she is well taken care of in the mean time.

Congratulations...
I can't think of a better gift in life to Malia and Jamie than to provide them a loving and stable home.

I have adopted internationally twice and never had to wait that long. That is a function of the country that she is coming from. Good luck and keep the faith!

Most of you probably recognise this little one...
