Okay, so I agree with 2nd place, but most of my other high ranking silhouette images were down, down, down.

What on earth happened to these -

I thought that was an amazing capture at just the right time.

What a great silhouette - often they are cheap on detail, this is superb.

Nicely positioned on a turbulent background, I liked it.

FWIW, they are good images... here's my opinion on why they didn't place better (take it for what it's worth)

I agree... great capture, great timing, great silhouette... slight motion blur may have affected voting.

Yes, another fantastic image... in my opinion, it's ruined by the crop. The crop is boring and the subject is far too centered.

Crop again... it feels very weighed down in the bottom right corner

On Karen's wonderful shot I have to agree; cropped more aggressively, it would have scored even higher. Compare:

See how much more dynamic the image is with this change of cropping?

R.

edit to add: granted, we lose some fabulous sky at the top, but the image isn't *about* the sky for this challenge, it's about the silhouette...

Thank you Rob, that is much better! I guess I have to try several different ways of cropping before I submit.

That first one was by far was the most original in the challenge and executed flawlessly. It should have easily ribboned, IMO. Also, the other two you posted were more original than most.
