LOL. My reaction exactly, at least initially.
That is, trees can beautiful subjects, but my eyes will be bleeding after voting on hundreds of them.
My prediction:
150 trees in the lower left or lower right corner, with dramatic weather/sunsets/dawns behind them.
30 trees against a distant background (canyons, ocean, etc.)
50 trees against a pure blue sky
30 trees with cute kids leaning against them or hanging from them
20 trees full of birds
3 trees with a dog relieving himself
10 stumps
29 closeups of bark, many with bugs
5 shots getting cute with the word "tree" (a 3, a shoe tree, etc.)
15 flowers that grow on trees
3 trees with naked women draped around them, lounging near them, or hanging upside down from them
2 blank rectangles of solid color from charliebaker and others
Now to find something not in one of the above categories. :)

I guess I am just going to have to improvise to take the blue ribbon in this challenge, muahahahahaha! :P |
No sympathy => Find a dramatic sky-scape - everywhere in iceland from what I see - and just hold a stick in front of the camera. :-)) |

This would have been a better challenge, IMO, later in the season (at least for Eastern USA) We could have had some fall colors or some more bare branches. |

Well still, just these three photos will make it worth my while in voting in this challenge so I am game :P |

Well, even though I won't be able to get down to the coast this weekend, I wonder if we'll see this guy next week. He's managed to find himself in a number of challenges over the years...

I also don't think I'll be making it down to Phoenix.
BTW, I'm calling it now, this is the perfect challenge to have scores plummet after the first night. I know it usually happens, but prepare for that first drop...

Why? I mean, what makes you think it'll happen more than usual? |

Reminds me of the challenge 'Shoes'. There were some fun and creative shots, but the voting was mind numbing because THERE WAS NOTHING BUT SHOES!! And that was before there were 2 open challenges each week, so there were 457 entries.
Maybe I'll be wrong. I tried to shoot for it today, but my attempts were at best BORING! :(

Finally...one the Icelanders won't win.
On a side note. How do you stop being lost in an Icelandic forest?
Stand Up!!

Challenge Details: Take a photo where a single tree is the main subject.
I think this actually fits the challenge description exactly, since it only says you need a single tree as the main subject, and not that other trees couldn't be in the photo. Luckily I shot this a couple weeks ago and I can't enter it and watch my score spiral downward. lol.

Sorry, but I think your score would be chopped down mercilessly if you entered such an image. Maybe if the other trees were different kind of trees from the dead tree, it would fare better... |

exactly! I would have liked it too much to not enter it and then it would have bombed, :)

Do you think blurring the background would be widely accepted, so as to make the single tree stand out? |

Lived there for 2 years. Was in the Air Force at Keflavik. I wish I was into photography back then.

Someone alluded to it. Voter fatigue. The early votes will be high on the good shots because everything will be fresh and new, then by the morning when people have voted on 50-100 entries before they get to yours, things won't seem quite so creative or unique.

A "single tree" in BC is just plain impossible. No such thing as a single tree. |

You can always get "up close and personal" with your subject ...

My one and only ever "single tree" shot. Would something like this be DNMC because of the people? |
