A monthly free study is just the sort of thing for giving the membership added value.

I couldn't agree more.

Just gonna "parrot" everyone here and say I'm all for a monthly Free Study! Thanks for this great idea, and that little bit of extra on the entry size as well. It's been a real pleasure to look at the larger photos with all the impact they give. Just renewed my membership and was wondering if I should have seeing how I haven't had much time to do the weekly challenges. But a month-long one just made it all worthwhile. :)

YES. I absolutely appreciate the opportunity to show off what I do instead of trying to figure out what to put into a narrow-themed challenge. I mean, I appreciate the challenges as they challenge me to think in a way to which I'm not accustomed, but they don't really seem to show what I'm capable of doing when left to my own devices, and I think a lot of folks here probably feel the same way.

I agree, but with so many photos submitted perhaps we need to extend the voting time, to 2 weeks perhaps.

I think a monthly one would be good also, most of my best photos have been taken on months where there wasn't a free study, so I couldn't enter it (not that it's always a bad thing, nothing tears your excitement about a great photo apart like having it average 5.xx or even lower).

I guess the participation on the regular member challenges might go down, though... I could be wrong

I generally submit on one open challenge and the member challenge if I have something I consider is fairly decent and fits the challenge. Having a Free Study every month, or even every second month, would enable me to shoot what I want to shoot without having to fit within a challenge. Perhaps making it every second month would prevent the decline of the other member challenges.

I must put my word in here too incase the admins are reading this, I completely agree with monthly free studies. Choices and photo freedom! Definately get me attempting to shoot my best every month. Some challenges I just skip due to lack of idea for the topic. I'm no scalvert after all. ;)

I would love to see a once a month free study. I think it would lead to a lot more people joining as members.

You should be trying to shoot your best everytime you pick up a camera, not because theres a Free Study on a website, but because you want your images to be the best they can be everytime...

I like the Free Study challenges as much as anyone, but what makes DPC unique is the subject based challenges.

There are many sites out there that are open to any type of image. The challenge of shooting a specific photo assignment on a deadline is what attracted me to DPC.

If the challeges were easy everyone would score 8+, the fact that they are difficult is what makes the winning images special.
