Is there a consensus? Is it Flickr? I have a flickr account but I don't like how small they force the pictures to be, especially in a slideshow. I do really, really like the slideshow aspect of it though. Is there any website out there that has a similarly slick delivery system but allows larger images?

Personally I don't like flickr at all, I find it incredibly slow to load whenever anyone has a flickr based image.

Are you willing ot pay some money? Here, you can get a portfolio for only $25 for a year, and you can purchase more space.

Another popular option is smugmug. Again, it's a pay site, but depending on which level you get, you can customize and place galleries under a password, or even hide them

If you would like to try smugmuf free for seven days, click on the link in my sig, or go to Smugmug and use the reference TiAmCc4R4j9is and should you choose to sign up, you will save five dollars

You can also create slideshows on smugmug as well, with pictures hosted on smugmug

ETA: a few other sites you may consider are Zoto, Snapfish, or kodakgallery

I am definitely willing to pay some money. I looked at smugmug but apparently not hard enough as I didn't see any cool slideshow capabilities. I'll give it another go and check out all the other stuff mentioned here, thanks people!

the slideshows are there, but they must be encoded. There is information about it on www.dgrin.com the forums of smugmug.

Check out a few people I know who have them:
Motion Photography
Rex's Site A&M Studios Online
MayaM's Site

I know Rex knows how to do slideshows. Maybe consider pming him to find out more information?

Edit: Fix links

Is smugmug going really slowly right now or is it just my connection? How is its speed usually?

It may just be slow... It's speed is usually ok (for me)

ETA: I just checked some of the sites I listed, and they are loading ok, but the slide show is a bit slow... I don't know if that's the website or where I am because I'm not at home, but if you are having problems, it may be smugmug
