My fiancee took this picture at a friend's wedding a couple of weeks ago using my Canon S30. Can someone explain what could have caused the 'halo'?
Background info: in a church, sunny outside with some light coming in from a sky light above the alter (70 feet in front of the subject), she used the flash and the settings on the pic are f3.2 - 1/58.

I have no real explanation but it looks like a heraldric boss (lion rampant) to me. Dose she remember something shiny in her eyes just before she took the picture? |

I think the guy in the back is projecting it with those eyes!
I've gotten some similar effects shooting into a bright light; in those cases, I believe it's reflections/refractions within the multiple elements of the lens. |

The halo is created by flash reflecting off dust which is so close to the lens that it is out of focus. If you visit websites of ghost hunters you wil find that people think they are ghosts and call them orbs. |

Your camera can read minds and that man is thinking of giant condoms. ;)

Just guessing here, but I have gotten similar apparitions when shooting at the same time as several other folks all shooting flash... Maybe it has something to do with a flash from a camera aimed more or less at you reflecting off your lens?
That, or... well, this IS a church... maybe it's an angel? :) |
